This was our first trip to Rome, and we loved it! The Astoria Garden hotel was conveniently located near the train station and walking distance to many attractions. The people at the front desk were very helpful, gave us great tips on where to eat, how to catch the subway to the Vatican, etc. The breakfast was nice and always... More

The building and the lobby and hallways look chic but inside the room it just looks old. I think they're trying to go to the old romantic European look but since for me it just looks an old and very small room. Bathroom is so-so. It is clean but doesn't look like it. I'm also afraid to use the blanket... More

My wife and I just got back from our first overseas trip to Italy. While we stayed in Rome, our travel agent booked us a "less than stellar" room. Since we were on our honeymoon, my wife and I decided to upgrade; enter Astoria Garden. The concierge was the best including his father who showed us to our room! The... More

This was a great surprise. The hotel is an older gem located a short walk from Termini Station. We spent two nights in this gem. Our room was small, but our companions had a bigger room. Both of our rooms were very clean and the bathrooms were in excellent condition. The rooms were wifi enabled at no additional charge. The... More

We have just returned from a wonderful 5 days in Rome. How lucky we were to choose The Astoria Garden for our stay. The location is excellent...only a stroll away from the main train/metro/bus terminus BUT so quiet! Excellent breakfast and lots of good, reasonably priced, restaurants just moments away. The hotel is small and spotlessly clean. The staff couldn't... More

Very close to the train station, less than a 5 minute walk, therefore easy to get to the Metro if that's how you want to travel around Rome - Metro to Vatican City is about 15 min. Good base for exploring Rome as its in a quiet area, about 30 min walk to the real hustle and bustle I.e. Trevi... More

This was a nice place to explore Rome from. It is in walking distance to the train station, and as we arrived via train that was a plus. It is clean, small, the staff is nice and the location is great with access to the metro system.

WE found the location of the hotel quite good, not too far from terminal station and on a quiet street. Service was good but one major disadvantage is breakfast buffet is only from 7am which is impossible for guests to enjoy if they were on an early flight or excursion (most pickups and start times at 7 and latest 730am).... When I booked a room in this hotel I just looked over the reviews and it seems like a nice place, well, the reality was even better than the reviews. Very, very clean, the stuff was really nice and helpful, the little inside garden was a little oasis of peace after a day of walking and the location is very... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
