Picked this hotel because its close to Train Station, not so close to other sites, but the view of the Basilica was amazing. The room was a nice size, as well as the bathroom, but the half shower glass wets the floor. Great Rooftop Bar, get a bottle of wine and a cigar and enjoy the beautiful view. We planned... More

Stayed here twice during our recent trip to Italy. Enjoyed the decor, staff friendly & helpful. The roof top dining was very nice & dinner excellent & continental breakfast very good. Strongly recommend & definitely stay here again. Good value.

Chose this hotel after reading reviews and also in our price range. I was travelling with my two daughters and 2 year old grandson. We were given an executive room which was a couple of doors down from the main hotel. The room had a good size king size bed and a single plus a travel cot. Room was spotlessly... More

We've stayed at the Mecenate Palace the last three times we've been to Rome. The location, on the piazza with Santa Maria Maggiore, is centrally situated, near all the places we want to visit - Borghese Gardens in one direction, Colosseum and Forum the other way. Excellent small restaurants in the area that the hotel will gladly recommend, call and... More

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon in Italy. We arrived by train and although we took a taxi, this was not really required, as the hotel is a very short walk from Rome's Termini station. Our room was on the 4th floor and we had an amazing view of the Basilica Di Santa Maria Maggiore.... More

Mecenate Palace has the advantage of its location. Right across Santa Maria Maggiore and within 10 minutes away from Roma Termini, this hotel offers a sumptuous breakfast with pretty much the same fare as in other European hotels. The Metro is right below the train station Termini and offers connectivity to all tourist attractions. The Indian eatery Janta Fast Foods... More

I stayed here for 4 nights with my partner for our first visit to Rome - he proposed on the second evening! Hotel is beautifully decorated and looked after and we got upgraded to a deluxe room with a view of the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore which is stunning. Rooftop bar has a great view of the city at night.... More

For those first traveling to Rome. It is easy to get around from here and just 5 blocks walk to the train station. Rooms are comfortable and have all of the needed amenities. The service at the desk, in the restaurant and the bar were all great. the breakfasts were the best of our 14 day Italy trip. I would... More

This hotel is centrally located and close to Rom's beautiful museums and piazzas. It is a very nice hotel, safe, friendly staff, and good rooms. The only problem appears to be that the terrace can only be used for having drinks. That was disappointing. The breakfast is sub-standard. Why the terrace cannot be used for breakfast is another open question.... More

The hotel is directly on a beautiful square with one of the nicest churches. We had a stunning view from our room to the square. The rooms are quiet and comfortable. They have a gorgeous roof terrace, which could be an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, the breakfast (included) on the terrace is average and we had to wait 10 minutes to... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
