The hotel is very nice and comfortable. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a bigger room in the seperated building. Location is the best, just directly in front of Santa Maria Maggiore which is not so far away from the train station. Breakfast was really nice on the roof garden.

My mother and I stayed at three hotels during our trip to Italy--one in Venice, one in Florence, and this one in Rome. Mecenate Palace was by far our favorite. The room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The WiFi was fast and the air conditioning was nice and cool. Dinner on the rooftop is elegant with a great view.... More

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was small but perfect for a few days stay. It was a good standard and very clean. The rooftop bar and restaurant was gorgeous with stunning views and brilliant cocktails. The food in the evening was also delicious. The location was also brilliant as it was not too far to walk... We missed our connecting flight to Rome because an issue with Air Canada; hence, we didn't get to stay at the hotel. When we contacted management and explained the situation, they refused to refund our stay. Apparently, they are desperate.

We booked this hotel last minute for one night. It was in a great location and was clean and comfortable. The staff was pleasant and very accommodating. We arrived very late and had to have our bags held the next day -- we were able to print tickets, etc. from the lobby computer. In room wi-fi and free breakfast were... More

Great service and food. Compact but well equipped bedroom with little extras. The roof terrace overlooking Santa Maria Maggiore was a perfect backdrop to drinks, dinner and breakfast. Good selection at breakfast, good quality food and a friendly chef at dinner.

We picked this hotel purely on location and reviews and I'm so glad we did. It is only a short walk from Termini Station and the side walks are luggage friendly. Once in the hotel we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of room. We had a room with a Basilica view, fantastic, but the best feature of the room... More

Just spent 4 days at the mercenate palace hotel. The staff were excellent helping with any request, arranging reasonably priced airport transfers and booking tickets for attractions. The hotel maintains a charming old fashioned appearance. We upgraded to a superior family room overlooking the square. The view was excellent but the room a bit cramped with the extra single put... The hotel was really well situated for us, very close to the hop on hop off bus which we used for the whole week. The roof terrace was amazing, especially at night, with fantastic views of the city. We also ate in the hotel restaurant, which again was very nice. Breakfast was good with the normal continental choices. The fruit... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
