We stayed at this hotel on our 3rd trip to the Eternal City. What made me choose this hotel was the location, the hard-to-pass-up deal and the fairly good TA rating. The hotel staff we dealt with (front desk, breakfast buffet staff, servers, housekeeping) are all courteous, helpful and attentive. The hotel is clean, the hallways spacious and our room... More

We had reserved the Presidential Suite here but upon arrival the hotel staff informed us our room would not be available as the previous guest was very sick and unable to check out. So, they put us in another suite, nice enough, and they are treating us to dinner at their roof top restaurant which is quite good tonight. The... More

The hotel is very well located an easy 7 minute walk from Termini station on an attractive square, facing a beautiful church. Almost all the attractions of central Rome are within walking distance, although we took taxis to Trastavere and the Vatican (around 9-10 euros). There is a taxi rank on the square at the side of the church. We... More

Unless you want to spend a fortune in Rome, you are going to have to live with a small room. The room at Mecenate Palace Hotel was nice sized, for three of us. It is centrally located with a good staff. The breakfast was good-- not great but as good as one could expect. Yes, you will probably want the... More

Not the nicest hotel staff. I was traveling with my two children ages 8 and 10. Upon arrival the desk clerk told me that I would have to pay an additional 30 euros per night for an extra bed because I had 3 people. I tried to explain that they were children and I didn't need a bed but he... More

Stayed at the lovely hotel in mid-August when Rome's weather was very hot. AC was super-room so cool. Beautiful clean room with large bathroom, great bed. Wifi excellent. Highlights were the great breakfast and rooftop bar with view of Santa Maria Maggiore church at night--fantastic and great bar staff. Left fav shorts in the room upon checkout. Emailed and the... We booked this hotel as it was walking distance from the Termini train station (main station) and the colosseum. It was a easy 10 minute walk from the station (with our cases). We had an apartment with separate bedroom, which was great. It was in a different block a few doors down from the main hotel, but this was fine... More

Walked down from train station. (Termini), walked to colosseum for excursion. Breakfast was excellent. Sit outside, enjoy the view. My room cool n quiet. Shower little on the small side. Dinner upstairs ok, there are other outdoor restaurants around. Took taxi up hill, picked up stored luggage, then on to train station. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone in a... More

First leg of our Italy trip and it was perfect! Location was ideal, you could either walk or transit was right outside the hotel and the terminal a 5 minute walk. Our room overlooked the beautiful Basilica Papal di Santa Maria Maggiore!! Stunning especially at night. While the room was not large (it is Rome people) our bathroom was spacious... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
