Very nice facility however the guest rooms heating and cooling are controlled by the front desk. Very uncomfortable for American's that are used to cold A/C. There is no place to purchase a cup of coffee "to go".

I was lucky enough to have my parents pay for my stay since I am a student - this means my standards are likely to be lower than the average reviewer which makes the following all the more shocking for anyone thinking about staying at Gran Melia. Let me run through my chief issues with the hotel: (1) A bottle... More

Fantastic hotel in the heart of Rome! The hotel is only a short distance from Rome INT airport. The room I had 416 had views over the river (one side) and the Vatican on the other. Rome has some fantastic sites and the Gran Melia Rome has all these on its door step!

We stayed at the Gran melia for two nights in the beginning of July. It was a beautiful hotel, everything is very modern and clean. It has an interesting history as it was an old convent. The doors to the room are the original doors and add a very nice décor to the hotel. The room is a nice size... More

When our family splurges on nicer hotels, we usually find it's worth it. This was certainly the case with our three nights at the Gran Melia in June. There is simply nothing like wandering around Rome in the summer, feeling as sweaty and ancient as the ruins by the time three o'clock rolls around, and then coming home to that... More

We came here with a 9 month old baby. Pool is great, family friendly, high chairs, cribs, cute baby turn down service. Pretty good service for Europe (sorry, but it's true). Staff is very very friendly. Our room smelled of Cigarettes (non smoking hotel) and they offered us an upgrade (but had to pay for it). After three days of... More

Beautiful resort style hotel with great service and amenities, located right next to the Vatican and walking distance to major sites. Concierge is fantastic and has great recommendations for food and wine. So good we stayed twice before and after our trip to the south coast.

The Good....The property is beautiful and the pool is super nice. The Bad....The prices. For one drink at the pool, 16 euro. That is absurd. The Ugly.....The service. Where to start? The TV did not work in the room. Maintenance had left for the day and no one could fix. I ended up fixing it. The air conditioning did not... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
