We stayed at this hotel for 5 days last week while in Rome. The location was hard to beat for walking to the Vatican or Rome. There is a large hill to climb but not an issue. We had the Red Level which was worth it (food, drinks in the afternoons) which includes breakfast as well. Luca (concierge) was excellent... More

Absolutely fantastic hotel, excellent staff, excellent service! Nothing was too much trouble! House-keeping fabulous. Breakfast great. Only downside just one bar.. Perfect retreat after whole day of sightseeing.. Spa fabulous, friendly welcoming staff.

My wife & I stayed here & loved it! Rome is a fantastic city. This is 10 minutes walk from the Vatican and a short free bus ride into the centre. Rome has so much to see and do, but gets pretty hot in the summer. We saw the sights in the morning, chilled by the pool in the afternoon,... More

In short... Great service (excellent staff), excellent pool area, comfortable beds, cleanliness is second to none! Down falls; paper thin walls so you can hear EVERYTHING from the hall way! cruddy finishings and not so great a la carte breakfast - don't bother with the red service, overpriced for what it is - we spent most of the time by... This hotel was lovely. It was my first time in Rome, traveling solo. With so many hotels in Rome, it is daunting to pick one. I am so happy I chose the gran melia. My favorite thing about it was it was not in the city center. I could walk around during the day in the city but escape the... More

The hotel facilities, services and general ambience were excellent from the start of our stay to the end. This was our wedding anniversary and we were presented with champagne and strawberries in our room which was a really nice touch. The feel of the hotel was cool and inviting and the rooms excellent and very tasteful.

Wonderful resort within walking distance of the Vatican. We stayed 5 days and had a full schedule. It was great to have a "oasis" to rest and re-charge. The staff was terrific and the rooms were perfect. The only downside was the spa could have been better. A five minute walk up the Via del Gianicolo affords a fantastic view... More

Location is good. When we booked the room on booking.com pictures and room types were misleading. If, you want to feel yourself like sardines in the box, go on. Any way, cost and room is not resonable. Be careful, have a look at room before pay!!!!

We got off on the wrong foot at the Gran Melia. Our rooms weren't ready until 3 hours past the check in time. At a hotel of this caliber, guests are often offered a small room in which to freshen up or, at least a glass of wine. We were offered nothing, other than the comment, "we can't do anything... More

Recently enjoyed a long weekend here. It was our first time in Rome and we wanted to stay somewhere out of the main town, with a pool. Hotel Gran Melia ticked all the boxes and for us it was perfect - from the warm reception on arrival to our beautiful room. I would recommend the downstairs rooms with private garden... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
