I stayed at the Gran Melia earlier this month and had an amazing experience. The Hotel is absolutely stunning and the staff are phenomenal. The breakfast was lovely, great service, inclusive of champagne. The room was extremely cosy and spacious. Undoubtedly a 5* experience, I most certainly will be coming back. Diana M.

Simply amazing service and professional staff on the Red floor. Spacious luxurious room with private jacuzzi with the Vatican view. Delicious a la carte breakfast, fresh and tasty. Very nice spa. Good position, just few steps from main attractions.

Everybody nice, breakfast lovely, staff lovely! Nice garden - just don't make local calls on the room phone! 14 minutes cost 35 euros, landline! For such a expencive hotel, that is a bit mean! We've been in many not that expencive hotels in Italy, and they never charged us a penny for local calls!

The Gran Melia is like a country resort in the city, with spacious grounds, a beautiful pool and adjacent lounges, elegant public rooms, and striking bedroom décor featuring huge murals of magnificent Renaissance paintings. The hilltop location affords fine vistas and ensures tranquility. However, city buses pass by the front gates, so one can easily use those, or the hotel's... More

This hotel is one of best I have stopped in over the past few years. The staff are very attentive but not over bearing and so friendly. Remembered our names all the time even if they were busy. Breakfast staff again excellent. Nothing too much trouble. The night porter explained how to enter the gates at 1.00am after we came... More

We ordered food to our room on our first night and the food was just delicious. We were also given a complimentary bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. The room... More

Just one word to describe this beautiful hotel...perfect! It is located in the city centre within walking distance of San Pietro. It is very impressive how they take care of the details in order to create an atmosphere warm and chic, mixing together the tradition of the past and the innovation of the future.

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
