This is a beautiful hotel, with efficient staff and walking distance to the Vatican. A friend and I stayed here fromDecember 30, 2014 to January 1, 2015. The Concierge staff gave us a complete orientation of the city, hotel facilities and services available. It has a free shuttle to the center of Rome, whis is very convenient. The room was... More

The hotel is very nice, luxurious, very good and polite staff, but veeeery quite... We have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world, in this one you could here a pin falling... Expensive coffee (8€ for a cappuccino) and the breakfast was nice not exquisite.. Mixed emotions...

This review is to praise the wonderful staff at Gran Melia. We were to attend midnight mass at the Vatican and booked this hotel as it was very near (less than 10 mins walk). It was also my big birthday after Christmas and decided to stay for new year as well. The hotel did wonderful touches to make it a... More

I love the spacious bedroom and bathroom with Clarins amenities. I love that it is within walking distance to the Vatican and it doesn't cost much to take a cab to the city area (the hotel provides shuttle bus service though). The staffs were really warm and sincere. They spoke good English too.

Located right next to the Vatican and a short walk to Piazza Navona this is a great location with some fabulous views over the Tiber river. The rooms are nice and spacious. However, the rooms do not have spare electrical sockets to charge devices and the touch pad for switching on/off lights and air-con is like NASA control systems. Waiting... More

The Gran Melia Resort is elegantly appointed and staffed with gentlemen and gentlewomen who greet you warmly and regard you so kindly that you feel like a welcome friend of the family. The guest rooms are lovely and lend themselves to a romantic get away. I however was visiting with my adult son so we found ways to minimize the... More

A beautiful hotel away from the city but convenient to St. Peter's Basilica. English was spoken well by all members of the staff. They went out of their way to assist you with any and all needs. We were able to walk from our hotel to a lot of interesting sites. Though a taxi is needed to go to the... More

Set in the grounds of an ancient villa for emperor Nero's mother it still seems to capture the grandeur and seclusion from the hustle and bustle of Rome. Located ideally between the main old city and the Vatican this is well placed and a shuttle drops you into the city centre free-it's also only a short walk for those who... More

You get what you pay for I guess..Lovely hotel in lush grounds that feel like a little oasis of calm in the rush of Rome. The pool and spa are nice (although the jacuzzi was a little cold and I object at having to pay extra when it is advertised as a spa hotel) There was a nice large room... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
