We had stayed at the Columbus Hotel before and decided to stay again because you can not beat the location. It is about a block from the Vatican, and an easy walk to Trastevere, our favorite place to eat dinner and look at their shops. It is a short walk to the Trevi Fountain and The Pantheon. This hotel was... More

Stayed here with some friends for three nights in June, and had booked several rooms. Pros: -The location is GREAT, just steps away from St. Peters -Breakfast was decent quality -Outdoor courtyard was a nice touch -The bellman, Mario, was a joy to talk to and very helpful -There is a lift, but operates very slow (most people took the... positive: the location is perfect, just in front of San Pietro basilica.. I liked very much the restaurant in hotel, and the garden bar, indoor space, lobby and floors are really nice, with high walls, it seems very elegant and classy, like you are in some kind of museum.. negative: rooms are surprisingly bad and low quality... not clean, as... Stop and smell the roses, so to speak. We thoroughly enjoyed the locality. Close to the start of the hop on/off buses. So close to the Vatican you can almost hear the Pope! The room we had was adorable and the cute little window overlooking the side street was quiet but not so quiet as you couldn't enjoy the sounds... More

If you want some flash hotel then do not come here. We stay in 'flash' hotel when we travel abroad but this is Rome. Get into the atmosphere and stay here, just walking round this hotel reminds you of being in the Vatican. Fantastic if you want to get in the mood and the ambience of Rome, if not stay... More

It looked as a nice old and kind of romantic hotel at first. But the more you get to see the inside and use their service, you quickly realize this is not a 4* hotel by far. Rooms and beds are very simple (oldfashioned), although the view was truly amazing, especially Basilica by night. During the weekend there was a... More

My wife and I stayed at hotel Columbus in Rome in April 2014. At first glance, the hotel looked nice and pleasant. However, upon checking in, we quickly found the staff to expectionally rude and unhelpful. They had taken our money a few days in advance when we booked the room, but had no room for us on the arranged... More

This beautiful building has elegance befitting its former function as a papal residence - vaulted ceilings, portraits of clergy and antique furniture. The location is fabulous. A short walk to St. Peter's square and handy to hop on hop off buses. They put on a fine breakfast in a lovely room. The courtyard bar with its umbrellas and fountain is... More

I attended the wedding of elena and Paul, they Lied about written arrangements(there was music missing, rushing time during reception, not enough food, wedding cake damaged becuase left out from the fridge with 33°), no special room for the spouses (just 2 single beds united together), no managers to discuss our complaints, waiters stopped giving drinks at 6 o' clock... I stayed in this hotel for 3 days in October. The hotel is in a superb location for sightseeing, on the doorstep of the Vatican's Piazza San Pietro, however apart from this fact and the nice friendly staff, there is not much else to talk about. Unfortunately this month was one of the hottest and the AC was not working.... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
