One block from St Peter's Basillica, this courtyard hotel couldn't be Ina more Vatican favorable location. The check in was easy and friendly. The bellman was very helpful. The original building is many centuries old and beautiful. Our room was large and opened onto a beautiful courtyard. On the fourth the room was quiet and warm. At 85f we tried... More

Our bed was hard, thin mattress with no box springs, very dark and gloomy room. Very old furniture. A/C didn't work, but even if it did, mgmt shuts off between11pm-9am. On 4th floor, had to sleep with window open to tolerate heat in only May. WiFi would not work in room or lobby. Breakfast ok at best. Bathroom had tiny,... More

This is an old hotel that when you go out to the street, directly to the left is St. Peter's Basilica and if you go right, St. Angelo Castle. You can't beat that! We arrived around 8:45 a.m., they held our bags for us and while we waited for our room to become ready, walked about 200 feet to St.... More

Nice historic building in front of St Peters basilica Excellent location for pilgrims. You can get an early start to visiting the basilica and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. The hotel has small rooms but is clean and comfortable and has good views. The beds are a little hard and so are the pillows, the management would do well... More

Staff were polite and friendly. Cosy rooms, and beds were ok.. our view of the basilica was breathtaking. The noise somewhat dimmed by double windows . The restaurant roof painting felt like we had really stepped back in time. We did not try the food there unfortunately. Hotel was close to public transport.

I stayed at the Columbus for two nights last week. It is located in a wonderful old palazzo in a memorable location situated to the Vatican. The interior is a bit tattered. The room I stayed in was comfortable but in need of significant renovation. The shower was excellent. Front desk personnel were friendly. Unfortunately, on both nights, the floor... More

The location of the hotel is exceptional: one step out of the hotel and you can see the magnificence of the Vatican. The hotel locale used to be a palace and the atmos tells: great halls, interior patio and pompous decoration. It is a good choice if you want to get transported into a different era. However, once you finally... More

Perfect location for the Vatican and with the open top bus stop opposite it makes a great place to use as a base to explore the rest of the city. Ancient Rome and other attractions are within a reasonable (3-5 k) walk through meandering streets that distract you from the distance covered. Staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel... More

We booked here primarily because of its proximity to St. Pete's Basilica - literally next door. Ok, maybe a few door down. A few things that travelers wont like is that this place has not undergone any type of face lift or major renovation and still appears to be in its original state which we didn't mind. Almost everything in... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
