Staff were polite and friendly. Cosy rooms, and beds were ok.. our view of the basilica was breathtaking. The noise somewhat dimmed by double windows . The restaurant roof painting felt like we had really stepped back in time. We did not try the food there unfortunately. Hotel was close to public transport.

I stayed at the Columbus for two nights last week. It is located in a wonderful old palazzo in a memorable location situated to the Vatican. The interior is a bit tattered. The room I stayed in was comfortable but in need of significant renovation. The shower was excellent. Front desk personnel were friendly. Unfortunately, on both nights, the floor... More

The location of the hotel is exceptional: one step out of the hotel and you can see the magnificence of the Vatican. The hotel locale used to be a palace and the atmos tells: great halls, interior patio and pompous decoration. It is a good choice if you want to get transported into a different era. However, once you finally... More

Perfect location for the Vatican and with the open top bus stop opposite it makes a great place to use as a base to explore the rest of the city. Ancient Rome and other attractions are within a reasonable (3-5 k) walk through meandering streets that distract you from the distance covered. Staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel... More

We booked here primarily because of its proximity to St. Pete's Basilica - literally next door. Ok, maybe a few door down. A few things that travelers wont like is that this place has not undergone any type of face lift or major renovation and still appears to be in its original state which we didn't mind. Almost everything in... More

I booked here because the price was good but I was really impressed with the single room I had - it was massive with a king size bed and a nice clean bathroom. The location is very close to St Peters and close enough to anything else we wanted to walk to - bit far from the train station with... More

We had stayed at the Columbus Hotel before and decided to stay again because you can not beat the location. It is about a block from the Vatican, and an easy walk to Trastevere, our favorite place to eat dinner and look at their shops. It is a short walk to the Trevi Fountain and The Pantheon. This hotel was... More

positive: the location is perfect, just in front of San Pietro basilica.. I liked very much the restaurant in hotel, and the garden bar, indoor space, lobby and floors are really nice, with high walls, it seems very elegant and classy, like you are in some kind of museum.. negative: rooms are surprisingly bad and low quality... not clean, as... Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
