The joy of this Hotel is it is so close to the Vatican with Castel Sant' Angelo and the River Tiber close by on the other side it is not such a long way to walk to many of the major Sites in Rome, unless you are not so good to walk far.. It is an old building , I... More

My family and I just stayed at Hotel Columbus this past Christmas. It is a gorgeous building with loads of rooms to hang out in and a court yard, which was closed because it was out of season. The place feels very old Rome. It is extremely sparsely furnished. .....We couldn't help but thinking that this could be the most... More

The location could not be better for an early start at St Peters. The room at best could be described as tired and smelt like a rugby team had been sleeping there for several months. Bed mattress collapsing. Air conditioning fan working but no cool air. Rated a 4 star, perhaps it has escaped reassessment since the 1970s.

This hotel is in a great location right near St. Peter's Basilica. The hotel offers free parking which was perfect for us. The breakfast is great and came free with our meal. The bedroom was more spacious then we thought however, the furniture is outdated. The bathroom was equipped with everything needed and we had one of the nicest showers... More

I have stayed at Columbus Hotel multiple times over the past 10 years. The building has an extraordinarily beautiful interior with original frescos, artwork, antique furnishings, fireplaces, and a peaceful courtyard (with outdoor seating). The hotel features a wonderful restaurant, La Veranda. I am always eager to try the creative menu selections when I arrive at the hotel. The wine... More

This is my second stay at Columbus Hotel. First time was in 2010. It is conveniently located to visit Vatican City. My husband and I went to Pope's General Audience on Wednesday and we left the hotel at 8:30 am and got the good seats. After the visit to Vatican City, it is only a few minutes to walk back... More

I stayed at this hotel for the last 4 nights with a group of 23 and we were not impressed. The hotel is dirty, old, has 1 small lift and no porters to help us with our luggage. The room was very dark, the walls were filthy with dust and big brown stains (it has never been painted in the... More

The hotel use to be a monastery - antique furniture - large rooms - lots of nooks and crannies. Very close to Vatican and the hop on / off bus. A/C worked well. Very spacious breakfast area and good choice. Found staff to be helpful. Must be doing something right because fully booked for next two months when we were... More

I'd give this hotel 3.5 It's very close to Vatican City about a two minute walk to St. Peter's square. Very basic rooms but clean and well maintained. The breakfast is very basic quite ordinary and the staff quite helpful, But not so close to many of romes attractions like Trevi fountain, forum, pantheon ect about a 40 min walk.

When walking out of the hotel you can see St Peters Bassilica which is only a few hundred meters away. Our group stayed for 5 nights whilst we walked around and saw the incredible sights of Rome. The hotel staff were excellent and very helpful. Our room was on the third floor and, although there was a lift, we found... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
