I was here for four nights with my wife and daughter. We had a very comfortable room on the 3rd floor with good wi-fi, fully operational air con and a lovely view of the courtyard. We found the reception staff to be very helpful indeed regarding their local knowledge, which we found most useful. Breakfast was fine and there was... More

This hotel was recommended to us by our travel agent, and we were pleased with the location as a good starting point for touring Rome. As mentioned in previous reviews, the building has an impressive history, which leads to pros (interesting architectural details, artwork) and cons (dated rooms, ineffective circulation/air conditioning, poor wifi and TV access). We loved being able... More

We stayed there recently and the location of the hotel was perfect for an early start to our visits to all of the Vatican and Rome sites, the staff were very friendly and helpful all the time. We used the terrace at the end of a busy day to relax with a few drinks and to look back on the... More

Don't go to this hotel if you appreciate a cool comfortable room after a hot day of sight-seeing. The rooms are uncomfortable and the air-conditioning, when (and if) it works, is ineffective. the common areas are not air-conditioned (except for the breakfast room). while this may be acceptable fall to spring, it is completely miserable in the summer. The quality... More

Like so many of the previous reviewers have said this hotel has an enviable location a stones throw from St Peter's Square. It is part of a building complex with a rich and varied history. You can get some good value deals - but that good stuff comes at a price! The staff are not friendly, the rooms are small,... More

Great hotel, steps away from St Peter's Square and most shops are a short walk away. I loved the Antique feel of it, furniture, windows and decor.(Reminded me of the Ottawa Chateau Laurier in Canada) ( Some of the tour members wanted a modern look did not appreciated the old feel too bad.) Yes there are a couple bad things... More

You cannot beat this hotel in terms of its location - its two buildings from St. Peter's Cathedral. It was built in the 15th Century and has an interesting history, but thats pretty much where the good points end. The air-conditioning is a joke. We sweltered through every one of our six night stay. When you comment the staff make... More

Where else to stay near the Vatican as in an old monastery! The former monastery is now a nice little hotel with antique style rooms and an amazing patio garden . Every room and every hallway seems to have its own story. Besides the bathrooms this hotel is very nice at a reasonable price. It is not a luxury hotel... More

I only came here one night with my family because our flight stopped here anyway and it was such a bad experience. The hotel is extremely old and I don't know how it has 4 stars. My mom even asked for lotion and they pointed her to a cabinet that sold lotion for 14 euros. Really? A four star hotel... More

We stayed in this hotel for 3 dreadful nights. Rome had daily highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. This old building had inadequate air conditioning. If modernized, it offers a perfect location near St. Peter's Square. In addition, the morning wait staff had difficulty maintaining the food for breakfast when faced with two or three tour groups.

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
