Just returned from spending 4 nights at the Hotel Napoleon having selected this hotel based on previous reviews. We certainly were not disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Reception, check in etc very efficient and quick, staff all speak very good English and were very helpful no matter the request. Breakfast If you are looking for the traditional British breakfast then... More

Stayed in Room 313 for 3 nights during summer. The hotel is a 10 min walk from Termini station and steps from an underground station (no lift or escalator). The hotel has two tiny lifts and you walk across the public rooms in between them. Our room was tiny and quite cramped. Walls were thin - second night we were... More

Dear Brisvegas, we are very sorry that it has not enjoyed the room. You will have noticed that all the furniture has been recently renewed, except with respect to the cabinet, due to a problem with the supplier, along with other cupboards for some other rooms. There will be delivered in days. As for the size of the room, I... More

A bit old fashioned but good hotel. Quiet but central. Not very well noise insulated from the hallway. we were wakened by a discussion in the hallway one night, we can live with that. Breakfast was good and the staff were very serviceminded, this goes also for the front desk. Would we go back to this hotel, Yes.

Stayed here for 3 nights in July. The service was excellent, all the staff were helpful and friendly, and accommodated for our poor Italian. The hotel is in a great location for getting around Rome - it was a 10 minute walk to the Colosseum, and there is a metro station right outside. The variety of food for breakfast was... More

This hotel had a classic old style charm. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They greeted us on the way in and out. They arranged transfers for us as requested. Location was great for station and colosseum. Between us we had 2 rooms, one was newly decorated, the other was adequate. I agree shower a bit tight but that did... More

The location could not have been better just a short walk from the train station. Metro out side. This is an old hotel with a lot of charm, the staff were so helpful. Our room had a smell of lemon not sure if the previous guest smoked and they were trying to get rid of the smoke smell. Good hotel... More

Dear Nick J, Thank you for your positive comments. We are glad that you enjoyed the Hotek Napoleon and have appreciated its charm. A note on the scent of lemon. For cleaning we use natural products, free of allergens. Obviously we do everything to remove all traces of the people who stayed in the room previously, including any odors. However,... More

The location is both one of its best and worst features. It's conveniently located at a metro stop and a few blocks from the train station. However, that part of town has more than it's share of homeless people and unsavory looking characters lurking about after dark. We were able to look past this because the staff was very helpful... Dear my2cents9, Thank you for your appreciation towards the hotel. As for the description of the area, I would like to clarify that there is no one who is lurking in the dark. There is just some poor homeless, but nowadays they are everywhere and in all major European cities. In Rome, they never created problems for anyone. So I... More

We stayed her twice during our trip to Italy in July. Two nights on our arrival in Rome and then we returned for two nights before our departure from Rome. We met friends – two other couples before leaving for a villa rental in Umbria. Both times the rooms were very nice. It was wonderful to have good working AC... More

Dear Suz2 John I wish to thank you warmly for your candid and detailed review. I appreciate especially your comment about the area around the Hotel. As you rightly say, it is ideal to visit Rome, and some vendor or a few homeless are not certainly a serious disadvantage. It is always a great pleasure for me to meet our... More

We stayed here for 6 glorious nights recently and absolutely loved this hotel. Everything from the room to the staff to the location was exactly what we needed for our first trip to Rome. We were very fortunate to have the Appartamento on the 6th floor with a lovely view over the rooftops of Rome. It was a huge room... More

Dear JVW324, Thank you for this nice review, even by Roberto Franco, Piero and everyone who helped to make your stay enjoyable. I particularly appreciated your note about the position, which I think is truly one of the best to visit Rome, both because it is at a short walk from the Colosseum and many other important points of interest,... Comfortable hotel with excellent service. We were given complimentary champagne after mentioning that it was our honeymoon. Close to Termini train station (one stop) with metro entrance for Vittorio Emanuele right outside hotel door. When exiting local tube stop to arrive at the hotel, there are various tunnels in different directions - if you always choose the left option you... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
