It is an amazing experience to stay at the Westin Excelsior in Rome. It harkens back to the era of Fellini, Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Peck, Sophia Loren, Jackie Kennedy and a host of others from the immortal 50s and 60s. The hotel is a piece of living history and exudes an aura of pure class. Located on the Via Veneto... More

This is my second stay in a Westin in two months. We stayed in Maui and Rome, Italy. The hotels were the same. Great lobbies, accommodating staff but desperate need of updating rooms. In both hotels, I paid to stay in a deluxe room. The carpets were old (recommend tile). The walls were old and both rooms had a weird... More

I'll say amazing room becuase the second one we got was brilliant. Be careful, some of the rooms can be quite small, however they have windows that open, views and the vast majority all have balconies or large opening windows. Restaurants are great and staff were brilliant. Would absolutely stay here again.

This is our first Italy visit. All of our bookings were either based on internet searches and/or recommendations from friends. This property, both from searches, and the info which friends provided, appeared very well suited for us -- located in a very nice area of Rome, walking distance to most area sites/desired activities (though we averaged 5-10 miles of walking... I booked this hotel since I have stayed at the Westin in Asia, Madrid and other cities worldwide. This is by far the worse Westin I have stayed at. I booked a double room, king bed or two twin beds, they gave us a full size bed and told us that the hotel was completely booked. I asked the concierge... More

The Westin Excelsior is a beautiful hotel in a calm yet strategic area in Rome! The staff is very kind and welcoming and the rooms were very clean. Breakfast is very rich and fresh with a live omelette station. I would definitely go there again next time.

Very good location while in Rome but and I mean a huge but the Westin Excelsior days of glory are gone. Nice lobby and bar...service below average with burst of employees trying to be pleasant...an overall shabbiness to the rooms and quite unclean. If you find a deal stay otherwise shop around.

We've stayed at this hotel before and likely would return. All the staff are helpful and friendly. The rooms are large, windows open and the ac works well. However, the rooms could stand an update- decor is old, painting needed. We choose a plan that included breakfast and that was a great addition. Everything offered was wonderful!

First I must say that for Rome, this is a hotel with big rooms, big bathroom, great decor and style! Very clean place and the food is great, you have a various menu so you have multiple choices. After a 15 min walk you will be in the center. The Spanish steps are near and also a beautifull park where you... More

Staying in Ludovisi / Via Veneto

Neighborhood Profile
Ludovisi / Via Veneto
Thanks to Fellini and La Dolce Vita, the Ludovisi and Via Veneto neighborhood earned its reputation as a posh area where gorgeous Marcellos wooed actresses and models while bored housewives hung out in streetside cafes. The cafes are still there, and so are the cocktails, but the neighborhood is now home to five-star businesses including hotels, banks, law firms, and embassies. The area is also right next to Villa Borghese, a beautiful park for sporting and cultural adventures. If you're looking for tranquility by night, this may be the place: Ludovisi and Veneto tend to shut down after 8pm.
