Stayed un May for 5 nights with hubby for work trip. Very very central and walking distance to everything. I saw many reviews saying outdated but so many European 5 star hotels are. We loved staying here and soaked ip the Rome culture and atmosphere. Concierge weree really helpful with booking tours and dinners. Can't complain.

Stayed here with my wife at the end of June 2015. Staff were helpful and courteous, food and drinks were great at the hotel restaurant Bar, and concierge was helpful. The hotel itself was built in the early 1900's... And is starting to show its age. The pictures online are based on what the hotel USED to look like... And... More

An excellent, but expensive hotel. As a SPG member you have three hotels to chose from in Rome. Excelsior, Sheraton and St. Regis. Excelsior is located downtown on an expensive part of Rome. 10 minute walk to spanish steps and other sigths. Old hotel, and most of the rooms give an "old luxury" feeling. So if this is not your... We spent four nights here and had a good experience. It is a charming older hotel, with opulent room décor and chandelier over the bed. We were upgraded to a grand deluxe room. It is a little dated as mentioned by other reviewers, but the room was clean and well maintained, plus the bathrooms are great. The staff was very... More

Next to the US Embassy. Within walking distance to Fontana Trevi and Spanish Steps , 20 to 25 mins, to Termini train station 15- 20 mins, walkable with only carry on luggage. The area near the train station not very secure at night. From Termini station , connection to Leonardo da Vinci airport, by train 14 Euro ( Leonardo Express... More

After traveling for about a week, we needed exactly what we found here: attentive staff, comfortable rooms, amazing beds and showers, luxurious linens, familiar and reliable food in the restaurants, a quiet, posh restaurant on the tree-lined street outside. Wonderful place to unwind in between more sight-seeing. Would come back in heart beat.

Pros : Name - Got bitten by the brand name. Everything stops there. Location - Within a short diving distance to many of the places. Walking distance to Borghese park , Villa and few others. Second building from the american embassy (not that it should matter) The food was good . Thinking hard to write something else ... Cons :... More

Dear Tripadvisor Thank you for your review and I apologize for not having met all your expectations. Due to the historic character of the hotel (103 years young) by law we cannot have irons, kettles and coffee makers in the rooms but we offer a free cup a day calling room service and have a free coffee station at the... Service and Rooms: We stayed in two hotels in Rome on our recent visit, the Westin and the Gran Melia. While a number of reviews of the Westin report poor service, the service we received was first rate. We were using SPG points, and were given two beautiful top floor (5th floor) rooms and received an upgrade for both. One... More

We started out vacation at the Marriott up the street and were very disappointed. Tiny bathrooms, old hotel, very unimpressive. We were able to move to the Excelsior and the difference is incredible. Huge rooms, big bathrooms, and great service. They are not even comparable. Throughly satisfied with our stay! If I had to say cons about this hotel- the... More

I stayed at two nights. Old building, old furniture, not so neat room. But the most important caveat is receptionists. They are rude, rude, rude. Westin needs to seriously consider staff education. One thing for sure is that I won't stay at Excelsior (this name is fallacy).

Staying in Ludovisi / Via Veneto

Neighborhood Profile
Ludovisi / Via Veneto
Thanks to Fellini and La Dolce Vita, the Ludovisi and Via Veneto neighborhood earned its reputation as a posh area where gorgeous Marcellos wooed actresses and models while bored housewives hung out in streetside cafes. The cafes are still there, and so are the cocktails, but the neighborhood is now home to five-star businesses including hotels, banks, law firms, and embassies. The area is also right next to Villa Borghese, a beautiful park for sporting and cultural adventures. If you're looking for tranquility by night, this may be the place: Ludovisi and Veneto tend to shut down after 8pm.
