I readily acknowledge that I used SPG points to book three nights at the Excelsior Rome, so perhaps my disappointment relates to having been relegated to a "freebie" room - though I spent plenty to earn those points! I was told we got an upgraded room based on our SPG status, so I can only imagine how much others paid... More

Dear TripAdvisor Thank you for having taken the time to share your experience at the hotel. The hotel itself is reasonable, we stayed here 5 nights. The rooms are nicely decorated in an old fashioned sort of way, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom large "some" of the staff are friendly. The issues I had and I stay over 100 nights a year in different hotels around the world each year. 1. Paying a premium for... More

Hotel’s location is great. Very friendly and well trained staff. Congrats to the FO, Concierge, Bellboys, Service line, Waiters & Housekeeping teams. The only weak point was hotel’s food which was of poor quality.

Second visit in three months, this time on honeymoon and if we searched the world over my wife and I couldn't have chosen a better hotel for our 10 day stay. Accommodations were absolutely superb, staff was attentive to our every need and, noting it was our honeymoon, even gifted us with a lovely bottle of champagne. If you're looking... More

This is a grand, luxurious hotel in a convenient but quiet location, we literally walked everywhere. Great service, huge, beautiful rooms, it was everything we hoped it would be. Other reviewers are right, there are some 'rustic' aspects (cracked tile/etc) but what do you expect--it's old. Prices were a bit outrageous for room service but why would you stay in... More

Perfect location in Via Veneto, old and elegant building, friendly and polite personnel. Our room on the top floor was quiet, (as we requested a room not facing the main road )with beautiful furnishing, big bathroom and very comfy bed. Doors, carpets, walls need to be renovated, but service and very clean room compensate. The tea expert at the bar... More

I love Rome and this place is the best neighborhood along the historic Via Vittorio Veneto avenue [think La Dolce Vita (1960) and the La grande bellezza (2013)] with iconic Martini sign nearby and the American embassy across the street. We stayed here for 3 nights and loved the service and location. We were upgraded to a nice suite and... More

We stayed here two years ago in July. It's old world charm is wonderful. Easy walking distance to historic sights, night life, great restaurants. Tour buses are available near by for many points of interest.

Staying in Ludovisi / Via Veneto

Neighborhood Profile
Ludovisi / Via Veneto
Thanks to Fellini and La Dolce Vita, the Ludovisi and Via Veneto neighborhood earned its reputation as a posh area where gorgeous Marcellos wooed actresses and models while bored housewives hung out in streetside cafes. The cafes are still there, and so are the cocktails, but the neighborhood is now home to five-star businesses including hotels, banks, law firms, and embassies. The area is also right next to Villa Borghese, a beautiful park for sporting and cultural adventures. If you're looking for tranquility by night, this may be the place: Ludovisi and Veneto tend to shut down after 8pm.
