This is an okay hotel in a fantastic area of Trastavere. The hotel itself is fine, pretty basic but you do pay a lot for what you get, and don't expect much customer service. All that aside, it satisfied our requirements and as the location was great, I would return.

We enjoyed our home away from home, right in the heart of Trastevere. What a treat to be just steps away from so many great restaurants, squares and bars, with the charming village feel of that neighborhood. Our room was large by European standards - we rented both a triple and a quad, and there was plenty of room to... More

Don't book this hotel unless you find pleasure in being scammed! We booked a room through the hotel web site. On arrival the staff knew nothing about the booking, but since they had one free room left we could have it for double the price. Luckily I had brought a copy of the booking receipt, and after two hours of... More

So, I arrived at the hotel in due time, looking forward to my Rome weekend. I booked 2 months in advance, and upon arrival, they claim that the room is cancelled, and that they have sent me an e-mail. I was shocked, and there was absolutely no will to resolve the situation for me. The staff was rude, obnoxious and... More

What is the absolutely worst thing that can happen when you arrive at the hotel? Exactly. That they don't have a room after all. Which is just what Hotel Cisterna seems to be doing. We booked our room 2 months in advance through their online booking and got a confirmation. However, when we arrived in the reception on a Friday... More

We'd booked this hotel months in advance and two weeks before our stay we got an email saying there was a problem with their booking site and they had no rooms for us after all!!! (Booking was confirmed and guaranteed with my credit card) No offer to help us find other accommodation or anything. It's difficult finding reasonable accomodation in... More

I won't labour the point here, but the long and short of it is that my wife and I arranged a block-booking of this hotel for family members and friends for our recent wedding in Rome months in advance of the wedding. Over the course of the week leading up to the wedding (including the night before), several friends and... More

Good location, but terrible staff. Very rude owner, dirty room, no WiFi (despite saying that they do), bad breakfast. Worst hotel experience in a while. We were to stay a few days but ran away after 1 night terrified with the experience.

I made a reservation (guaranteed with my C.C.) on Hotel Cisterna's website. I later emailed them to confirm the reservation and they emailed me back confirming my reservation. After 14 hours of travel, I arrived at the Hotel. The Hotel did not have my reservation on file or a room for me. I showed them my reservation print out (from... More

The hotel is in the Trastevere, a charming, safe neighborhood with multiple restaurants, shops, night life. The room was VERY clean, beds really comfortable. Shower with great water pressure, mini fridge, small patio, temp well controlled, quiet. The staff was very attentive and there is an English speaking person on most shifts. They took care of our departure to the... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
