Now this hotel was rather good. We were welcomed by a young woman. She was very pleasant, then the three of us were about to step into the lift until we noticed it was tiny! only two people could fit in, so one of us had to go up the stairs with the cases. The rooms were pretty basic, even... More

We visited Rome with 4 teenage grandchildren, hoping to give them exposure to travel in Europe and a taste of different cultures. This hotel was their favorite and ours as well. The rooms were comfortable and more than adequate for our needs. More important to us was the welcome and help from the staff at the front desk. Not only... More

Excellent value for moderately priced hotel with adequate breakfast, comfortable rooms, helpful staff and excellent location for walking, underground, bus, etc. Rooftop terrace (available from all rooms or private with a slightly-more-pricy-but-still-good-value top floor room) overlooks the illuminated Flavian Amphitheatre (Coliseum) and so is evocatively iconic. Would stay here again.

I traveled with my 8 year old daughter. Everyone on staff was welcoming, helpful and accommodating. We loved the dinners...delicious food and opportunity to connect with others staying in the hotel. Perfect location!

The Lancelot has been my favorite hotel in Rome since I learned about it in the mid-80s. It's "off the beaten [tourist hotel] path," a couple blocks from the Colosseum in an area with a neighborhood feel. The hotel is relatively small, but the rooms are well-appointed and the social areas are comfortable. When I first stayed there, the main... More

I found the Hotel Lancelot excellent for my needs, which involved a 15-min walk each way to the FAO building where I attended a 5-day meeting. It would have been great to explore Rome further -- especially the nearby Coliseum and Forum areas that I passed each day -- while based at the hotel. The hotel itself has 60 guest... More

close to Colosseo and in the very lively district of Celio, with many typical restaurants, Lancelot is ideally located. San Clemente is the closest art treasure and worth many visits , but there are many others in a walking distance. Bus connectins with the centre of Rome are close and efficient. The hotel's atmosphere is very friendly and the staff very... More

The location was terrific--on a quiet street just a few blocks from the Coliseum and the Forum, and convenient to public transportation. The best start of our stay was the terrific ambiance at the 7:00 nightly dinner. Although at breakfast the tables were smaller, the only tables in the outdoor room where we had dinner were for eight. Perhaps it... More

The location is good- on a street with little traffic and easy access to subway and busses. There are large rubbish containers outside the hotel and they are collected every day - so there is early morning noise. The staff are the best asset this hotel has- very friendly and helpful- except for the tall dark man who showed us... More

We enjoyed staying at this hotel and our regret was that we could not stay there longer. The location is perfect for getting to the Coliseum and Roman Ruins. We also found the Pantheon and several notable churches (listed in the Rick Steve's Guide) to be within walking distance. This hotel is not too far from the Termini so the... More

Staying in Monti

Neighborhood Profile
Monti
Monti is Rome’s rebel yell. This neighborhood just west of Termini train station mixes grit with fun as it continues to fight for its reputation as a magnet for the artsy, alternative, and hipster. Every season, quirky boutiques and food spots sprout up on its cobblestone streets. The neighborhood supports unique and homegrown businesses that cater to its longtime residents as well as hipsters on the hunt. Hang out at Piazza della Madonna dei Monti anytime after lunch and you'll always find something going on.
