My husband and I booked a private room for two nights at Affittacamere Rossana. The location near the train station was good but that is about it. The bed was very hard and the pillows were like rocks. We paid for a private bathroom - which we got, but you had to walk out into the communal area and unlock... More

At first the resident manager seemed friendly enough. The building and room weren't horrible for a budget hotel, but they weren't particularly nice either. When we entered the room, the table had a half-empty water bottle and a carafe of old coffee with a layer of mold on top. The table tops were somewhat dusty. There was an exposed wire... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
