This place is awful. After spending 2 weeks in Italy in nice hotels for the same price range, this was a awful way to end our honeymoon. The one thing this place has going for it is the neighborhood - definitely recommend Trastevere, just stay elsewhere. From the moment I checked in I should have known something was up. Who... More

Just back from 4 nights at Locanda San Cosimato and loved every minute. We were a little surprised that the rooms form part of a Condominium, however, soon realised that the room was small yet perfectly formed. We soon got used to the sounds and smells from our window which overlooked the courtyard. Ww ate at Ai Spagherri, the attached... More

Locanda is the perfect place to stay for those interested in being located in the center of trastevere without being "too much" in the crowded part of Trastevere. Despite all the classic locations of Trastevere are not more than 2 minutes away walking, you will find yourself in Piazza San Cosimato, where grocery market runs every morning, plenty of shops... Located by a busy market square and above a bar and a restaurant with minimal soundproofing this is nothing for people needing peace and quiet. On the other hand if you want to blend in with the Romans in close proximity to the major sights this is your pick. Service was very friendly and flexible.

My husband and I are in our early fifties and accompanying us on our 6 night break was our 21year old daughter and her boyfriend. We needed to find rooms and a location suitable for all our requirements when in Rome! We couldn,t have found a better place to suit our budget and to blend in with the Romans. Locanda rooms... More

As mentioned in a comment below, Siria is by the far the most helpful and sweetest receptionist in all of Rome. Always so eager to assist us, she made sure our stay in the Locanda was as we'd like it to be - wouldn't have been the same without her! The hotel itself is located in a great area not... More

Siria, the receptionist, is the sweetest ,most helpful person. She manages your stay and contributes to your good time.Would recommend this simple, clean, well organized establishment. The rooms are quite small but efficient. The air conditioning works. The breakfast is very simple, minimal.

We decided to stay in Trastevere the night before we flew out of Fiumicino - JUne 29, 2013. I had stayed near the Piazza San Cosimato before and enjoyed the piazza, which has a food and flower market and is filled with Italian familes from the area. There are many restaurants in the area. There is a tram (#8) that... More

When we arrived and parked near the piazza and saw a homeless guy on the bench I thought, uh oh, this is going to be bad, but once we found the hotel and got our room, we were very pleasantly surprised. We got room 7 which was a nice size, with a great a/c, a view to the piazza, a... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
