had a 3 night stay here in June, arrived somewhat tired after 2 flights, not promising start, the lady on reception was extremely abrupt and rude as if checking us in was a great inconvenience to her, never a smile cracked her face - apologies as never caught her name and she wasn't there for the rest of our stay... We checked in at Hotel Donna Camilla Savelli for two nights in June of 2011. We chose the hotel based on a review in the Travel section of the NY Times, as well advice of friends who travel to Rome frequently. We were not disappointed. The hotel is absolutely charming. We had a lovely room overlooking the beautiful courtyard. A... More

We found this a lovely hotel away from the city centre, but only a 10 to 20 minute walk to every sight in the city. The feeling at the hotel is one of relaxation, the staff are very helpful (especially the waiters and bar staff). The rooftop is stunning, but very under-used, we asked for chairs on a daily basis... A lovely lovely stay at Donna Camilla Savelli. We arrived at 2am after a stressful journey and the welcome was lovely and check in swift so we could get some much needed rest. The room was a tad on the small size for the price i paid but it wasn't too bad. The maids came in at least twice a... More

What a shame to have to write such a negative review but the hotel left me no choice. I asked for 3 separate beds, was promised this and wrote another email reconfirming we were definitely getting 3 separate beds. When we arrived we only had 2 beds. The rude front desk staff just shrugged her shoulders saying that's what they... More

The hotel is beautiful and very nice but the superior room is very small. The standard is supposed to be even smaller. The location is marvellous and so was our stay but I was surprised with the size of the bed and bathroom for the price and name (superior)

Great hotel! Located in the heart of beautiful Tratevere, this hotel is really a special one. It has this special peaceful atmosphere that makes the vacation special. Our room was never nice, with excellent bed, and beautiful bathroom, with all the necessary amnaties. The service was great, and the breakfast was the best we ever had in Europe!. The garden... Donna Camilla Savelli is an absolutely beautiful hotel. Grand yet simple, you feel the sense of history from the minute you cross the threshold. Situated in the buzzy, atmospheric neighbourhood of Trastevere you have some of the best bars and restaurants in Rome on your doorstep. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who are all excellent. Breakfast is... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighborhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
