Maybe the Hotel Splendid is looking a bit tired, but this is more than compensated for by the excellent service, the friendly staff and the splendid location. If you're heading for Napoli this is an excellent place to stay.
We have used the Splendid about 6 or 7 times over the last 11 years - and as long as you're not expecting multi-star luxe, it is a perfectly good place to stay. The rooms are reasonably comfortable - most of them can have nice views and good sized terraces with either a lovely or - at least - interesting...

Unless you are trying to save money, avoid this hotel. It is anything but Splendid. The website is very misleading....yes, there is a view, but of the wrong side of Naples, overlooking a train yard, a football stadium and an industrial area. Very good view over Naples bay from our fourth floor room, which was clean and spacious.
Bad points:
Building beginning to look slightly shabby and neglected - nothing like their website!
Tiny lift, room for one person and two cases only
Staff not particularly well-informed or helpful (no idea about trips to Pompeii for example)
