As a Diamond Hilton member I decided to book my recent trip to Italy using my points to stay in Hilton brand hotels so we had a week at the HGI in Matera, even though it was a 5 hour drive from Rome airport, as we had never visited the south before. As a Diamond member we did get a... More

Good rooms, reasonable food, lovely grounds. The rooms were very comfortable and well-equipped. WiFi arrangements were fiddly and unreliable: not on in this day and age. A way out of the town but a reasonable bus service. The area around the hotel is a little odd but it hardly matters.

At first sight a nice hotel with plenty of facilities though a long way from the town. In practice one of the most dispiriting places I have ever stayed. There are, for example, no end of problems with wI-fi, the TV, sun beds, room service etc and staff seem to have no interest whatsoever in providing any sort of service... More

While located beyond walking distance from town, the hotel is peaceful and has nice amenities. The front desk staff was super, going above and beyond. Excellent breakfast, comfortable rooms. Well worth the price.

This hotel was functional if lacking in character and when we arrived one of the bedside lights wasn´t working, nor was there any shower gel - just an envelope of shampoo. However, when we complained, this was immediately corrected. The room was comfortable and the food was excellent considering that we were on a tour and over 50 people had... More

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour. I got the impression that money was running out as facilities were run down - end of season? It is miles away from Matera so don't expect to stroll into town. We had a balcony but no furniture and the door was too narrow to bring the bedroom chairs out.... More

A decidedly 'out of town' location which requires transport to get to Matera itself. Our room was undoubtedly a bit disappointing - not a drawer to be seen: maybe its a minor niggle but I personally don't like open shelving. There was no information in the room about the hotel facilities which is remiss for an alleged 4 star hotel.... More

This hotel is the one they'd have put Alan Partridge in of there had been an Italian re-make of that show. This is the most faceless "business" hotel I've ever been to. I've tried a couple of the rooms - and there were several something's not working in each, be it the air conditioning in the over-warm carpeted rooms, the... More

This is a chain hotel which is quite out of the way. We were staying there in September 2014 during our tour of Puglia. Matera is a considerable drive away from the hotel. You need a car for this hotel. Beds were comfortable, food was average in this hotel. Very little atmosphere probably due to the clientele and the design.... More

It was a strange design for an out of town hotel. It had a modern design with many features that would have been more applicable in a major city location. It seemed to have been designed for large conferences/corporate events so the lobby and eating areas were big but the rooms relatively small. The group that I was with, had... More
