This cave hotel was once a church and the renovation of these caves are simply stunning. The front desk and breakfast area is what remains of the alter area. We stayed 2 nights in room 1009, a deluxe room. This room is not directly in the hotel but a little walk up stairs from the hotel. We were told this... More

We stayed in this wonderful hotel for two night and had an amazing experience. The suite 1004 is one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in. It combines the cave features with luxury equipment and beautifully selected furniture. With very hot temperatures outside our luxury cave provided a nice temperature and we probably spent more time in the... More

At least two of the eight rooms are problematic. We stayed in a party of two couples, self booked, via the hotel's website simplebooking.it. Interestingly there was no availability on Booking, com. Neither room was satisfactory. If you wish to sleep in a damp bed, have a suitcase full of moist clothes and navigate an awkward step a few cms away... More

Staying in Hotel In Pietra is definitely a once in a lifetime experience, we had the pleasure of staying one night in our trip in Italy's mezzogiorno. Finding the hotel can be a bit of a trip, there are many stairs and you have to park your car around 300 meters away, which wasn't too bad. All hotels in the... More

Lovely stay to start our honeymoon and to get over jet lag from Asia. Parking - we had a car so best to arrange with the hotel about parking arrangement. If you parked in their recommended garage, they can arrange luggage pick up and drop off services and it's very convenient Hotel and rooms - hotel is a nicely restored... More

Great location for exploring the sprawling sassi. Really helpful staff with great suggestions for restaurants and parking options. Go for the the garage parking with porterage - easy to get to and you don't have to worry about carrying your roller board (impossible to wheel it on the cobblestones). But what stands out is the hotel itself which has been... More

Stayed here for 5 nights and had an excellent time. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good location, in a pedestrianised area with cobbled streets in a maze like setting that is Matera. (Email hotel in advance if you need suggestions re free parking.) Rooms are all different so check on their website, we stayed in 1003 which was split level... More

We were a group of six from California traveling to 8 locations in southern Italy. Matera is already a special place and L'Hotel makes it perfect. The place is immaculate, the staff and owners extremely helpful. Roberto is from Matera and bends over backward to help however he can. He helped us find parking for our van, recommended sites to... I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here in this magnificently restored hotel within the rocks. The setting was convenient, the room very unique and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. And the staff was friendly and very hospitable. I hope I can return one day to further explore this magical city.

What a special place they have created! This was one of the most unique places we have ever stayed. It is a challenge to find it the first time but latter we found it interesting to wander the narrow city streets. The front desk staff was more than helpful with tips on eating, exploring their city, and where to park... More
