Stayed in room 1002. Described as 'on 2 levels'. It certainly is! A very narrow and steep spiral staircase leads to the bed and is not suitable for the less able. Breakfast average with no ham or cheese (except already in the croissants) and no fresh tomatoes or hard boiled eggs. Coffee freshly made, though. No need to use their... More

My husband, son, and I went to Matera in May of 2013. We stayed at L'Hotel in Pietra and loved our visit. The architecture and interior design is outstanding. We stayed in Suite 1004, a loft room with a King bed. We had plenty of space and always enjoyed coming back to our room to relax after checking out the... More

We (family with 2 boys) stayed one night in this hotel last summer. Perfectly located, the hotel is an old church built in the rocks. Very spacious room, decorated and furnished with great style, and an original large bathroom in the rocks. Staff at the reception are very helpfull, friendly and fluent english speaking. Great jazz or easy listening piano... More

My husband and I and our two grown sons and wives stayed at this hotel in late June and couldn't have been happier. Like another reviewer, the two of us stayed in room 1003 ( I'm glad the reviewer remembered the number) which had a second level sitting area with TV, which we didn't use, and a third level outdoor... 42 nights away in Europe, L'Hotel would undoubtedly have been the most unique and memorable night of them all. Having only had one night here we so wished we had booked a longer stay. We were offered an upgrade from the very reasonable 80 euro room to a split level room complete with a huge spa bath and your own... More

We stayed at L'Hotel in Pietra for two nights and really enjoyed the unique and serene ambience of the property. The first impression on arrival is one of calm and relaxation, almost like a retreat. Each room is totally individual with their own unique features. We stayed in Suite 1003 which was tucked away to the left of the foyer.... More

My kids and I were awe struck at the beauty of this town and of the hotel. It is within easy walking distance to all the areas of interest and it is close to some very good restaurants. Roberto and his wife took 4 years to lovingly restore the dwelling, and Roberto and Lucia run the hotel with care and... More

We spent 2 nights in this hotel and would have loved to have spent more. The room was fabulous, maybe slightly damp, but what would you expect being in a cave. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would certainly recommend it to my friends.

I really felt as if I had been a contestant on a game show and this stay was my prize. So many "oh's" and "ah's" emanating from our group of college professors staying here for an Italian Studies summer program. Gorgeous, simple, colors--definitely aesthetically pleasing for the minimalist. Nothing gaudy or outdated here, very chic. I subscribe to "Goop" and... More

We loved it here - the hotel, the people at the hotel and the fascinating town. Our first night we were in the smallest room which had a ladder to climb straight up to a platform bedroom area that was scary. we changed to another room the next day (which was fortunately available) and it was fantastic. I do not... More
