Funky atmospheric hotel in the centre of the Sassi, can't beat the location. We parked near the hotel and staff transported our luggage to the hotel, excellent service as we would never have navigated the journey otherwise! Hotel is beautiful and you can relax on terrace with a glass of vino, taking in the wonderful views. Highly recommend both this... More

The hotel has seven rooms within this former cave church and over looks the sassa (stone dwellings) with easy access to Matera's European plazas. Although staying in a cave sound exotic, beware of some conditions. The caves do not have cross ventilation and can feel clammy. The hotel does have air conditioning for each room. However, once you leave the... More

this was an unexpected treat. The view was amazing The rooms small but fun. Great breakfast and super sweet staff. We even came back after we moved to our other hotel to have drinks on their terrace. The place is beautiful and in a fantastic location. Warning about luggage and parking. Don't bring luggage - pack a small bag of... More

We stayed for two nights in one of the suites at this hotel. Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding, and the suite we thought we had booked had been given away to a group that arrived moments before us. This was disappointing and our stay there started off on a bad note... what a shame. Regardless, we made the best of... More

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel.

The hotel is located in the heart of Matera, about halfway down the sasso. It offers a marvellous view on the historic city and is within walking distance of all main sights. It takes about a 10 minutes walk to get there from the modern center, but can be quite challenging if... More

What a unique and fabulously located hotel. Most of the rooms are built into caves that originally served as a church. The décor is beautiful and the staff were so welcoming; the receptionist was so happy and couldn't have been more helpful - we had to congratulate her on her attitude! The delicious and comprehensive breakfast served in the foyer... More

This small Boutique Hotel is very unusual as it is in a former church which is beautifully and with a lot of taste designed into s small hotel. the rooms tell that it was a church before, raw stone and the room filled with modern minimalized design interior. But....the maintance of the place needs to be improved. In my room... More

Stayed at L'hotel for just one night in July and could kick myself for not booking a longer stay. Confusing to find as signage is minimal and unaware of on site garage we parked a few streets away. Rolling suitcases over cobbles we over shot the street but a super helpful local gave us directions. Stairs were a challenge but... More

Mixed feelings about this place. I applaud the creativity of converting an old church into an hotel - very quaint - but . . . all rooms are different - some are sensational, others are to be avoided. I agree with an earlier reviewer about room 1002. It's on 2 levels, yes, but try carrying a suitcase, or even a... More

Our third stay in this fantastic hotel. It was topped by staying in their latest suite - just amazing design with such style. On three levels from ground floor upwards. Ground floor has lounge area and large separate waterfall shower and huge stone bath, bidet, toilet etc area. First floor with large comfortable bed and tv etc and second floor... More
