We stayed in room 1003 during March of 2015. Lucia and Robert speak very good English and were exceedingly helpful in planning parking, dining and recommending activities during our stay. I can't recommend them enough for this fact. Matera is amazing, but not the easiest travel in the sense that it is in the heart of true Italy. One needs... More

This hotel is a nicely done cave hotel in wonderful Matera – an amazing city that deserves a few days of exploration before it is eventually Disneyfied-to-the-death, thanks to the constant attention it is receiving on both sides of the Atlantic. The staff at the hotel is very patient and kind. Lucia, especially, is very helpful and could be a... More

We stayed here for a weekend while exploring Matera and a few other towns. Finding the hotel at night was a bit of trick, but it wasn't too difficult. Our room was one of the most unique we've ever seen, and utterly lovely. The breakfast was excellent, but the best thing about the hotel was its staff. They were friendly... More

Built in what was once a church that dates back to the 1300s, this hotel is the perfect place from which to explore and appreciate Matera. Located within the Sassi, one step out of the lobby puts you back 400 years or more. Rooms are incredibly styled. A large tub and built in radio system were my favorite perks. Breakfast... More

I have stayed here twice. In October alone and then with my spouse in January. I thought she would like Matera and staying in Hotel In Pietra will compliment our visit. It is an old church cum caves and water cisterns. It was done with a lot of care , love and very good modern taste. Our suit was excellent... More

My partner and I visited this hotel for our minimoon, on October 26th and stayed for 4 nights. I was looking for a romantic hotel in an interesting and chilled out area and came across matera. I fell in love with the pictures of the unique cave rooms and booked up. On arrival staff were friendly and helpful. The lobby... More

Anyone visiting Matera is making a big mistake if they don't stay in the sassi of Matera. This incredible environment is if not the most at least one of the most incredible places in Italy. For me it's not my first time nor my last. This hotel was lovingly restored, 9 suites of various sizes nestled in the sassi (if... More

Funky atmospheric hotel in the centre of the Sassi, can't beat the location. We parked near the hotel and staff transported our luggage to the hotel, excellent service as we would never have navigated the journey otherwise! Hotel is beautiful and you can relax on terrace with a glass of vino, taking in the wonderful views. Highly recommend both this... More

The hotel has seven rooms within this former cave church and over looks the sassa (stone dwellings) with easy access to Matera's European plazas. Although staying in a cave sound exotic, beware of some conditions. The caves do not have cross ventilation and can feel clammy. The hotel does have air conditioning for each room. However, once you leave the... More
