We travelled to Matera in search of my husband's roots, and thought it would be cool to stay in a "cave" hotel. The Caveoso is in a perfect location for exploring this ancient and stunning city, with plenty of places to eat close by. As others have said, staying in a cave has its limits with darkness and dampness, but... More

This hotel has a great location and offers wonderful views. It is emblematic of the town, an historic cave town well worth the visit. The room itself was comfortable and the very nice woman who served breakfast in the morning made all feel welcome. We found our bathroom shower rather moldy around the outside edges and think it is time... More

So, you want to stay in a cave. There are two inherent drawbacks: 1. Caves are damp. 2. Caves are dark. This hotel did their best to mitigate both of these problems- our room had 2 dehumidifiers and many lights all around, but the basic problems are still there to some extent. As you would expect, the rooms have some... More

We visited Matera for a day and stayed overnight at the Caveosso in the middle of a visit to friends in Calomezzati, a couple of hours away. Matera is supposedly one of the longest continually inhabited towns in the world and we thought it would be worth a visit. We booked the Caveosso as it is mostly built into the... More

This is definitely a querky hotel in a fantastic spot. Matera was an amazing place and I would not have wanted to stay anywhere else given the history of the place. Having a cave for the night is a real experience, but we did find it a little damp, so wouldn't like to be staying for too long!

Really annoyed as the description on the website said nothing about having to park your car in a public carpark about 200 metres away...and that you have to lug your luggage from the road, over cobble stones and up stairs to get there.....the wifi was hopeless...but that's typical in a lot of hotels.

10 minute walk to hotel from where you first park, then good skills required to find hotel car park. Only one of the three staff on reception was friendly and very helpful. Good fun to stay in a cave and great views of the Sassi from the Piazza. No wifi or mobile phone signal in the room but what do... More

Hotel has a centrally and good location. Parking nearby. Rooms quit big but not so cosy. Staff at reception not friendly, as a client you do not feel welcome. Breakfast terrible, no cheese, meat, fruit only a big selection of many croissants.

I slept in the room N° 6. It has two environments, the first with bedroom and the second with a sitting room view "Sassi". The room was very clean, especially the bathroom. Good breakfast with typical products of Matera ("Focacia and bread of Matera") Centrally located in the main square of the "Sassi" with free parking near the hotel. I... More

We were here last week in october and the city of matera is great, but the room was very old fashioned. The mini bar was empty and the interior lacked any form of decoration and was not in the mountain itself. Furthermore the reception was not friendly and the breakfast was terrible, nothing was fresh and lacked any sausages or... More
