Firstly, everyone should plan a side trip to Matera, Italy. It is one of the most interesting places I have ever been. The Sassi area is a cave dweller's paradise. This small boutique hotel has many rooms that are in old caves but still offer all the modern conveniences you could imagine. A very unique place to stay. The town... More

This is a fantastic hotel in one of the most stunning places I've stayed in. If you want to experience Matera (Sassi) properly then chose a cave hotel! The reception to the hotel is separate to the rooms and is open 8am to 8pm, if you need to check in / out outside these hours you need to contact them... More

A wonderful seven nights in a wonderful, magic place. Matera may not be on many tourists' radar but its extraordinary mixture of biblical era caves and the echoes of a sad history make it a must do for anyone with a fascination for the past. The city, whose homes were literally carved from the soft rock of a precipitous gorge,... More

My husband and I loved our cave room! It was very nicely furnished with a comfy bed and little kitchenette. It was the perfect place to rest our heads and feet after exploring Matera. The hotel staff was very nice and accommodating!

Booked this online and the place is just like stated. We stayed in one of the caves, which had its own kitchen (we didnt use this) Very clean, tidy and modern loved it. It is in the middle of the cave town so lots to see round it.

Dear Jennifer, it was a pleasure to have you here! You were so nice guests! I'm sorry if I reply so late but I thank you very much for reviewing our hotel. I know you live in the States, but you never know...maybe one day we'll meet again. Thanks again. Alessandra More

The rooms are the original cave dwellings which have been restored into interesting and atmospheric rooms. The fittings were of high quality, the rooms are quiet and comfortable. Highly recommended and worth visiting Matera just to stay in them

We stayed in the Bifora suite at the end of May for a couple of days. We would have loved to stay longer but they were booked up. Alessandra and Gianluca are terrific. First--Matera is a must see place. I would go before it gets too touristy. I fear that in 10 years, the charm will be gone and many... More

We stayed in the Chimera suite for two nights and loved it! The room was a perfect size, and the location was fabulous - close to everything you want to see in Matera. The room was set up with a kitchenette complete with pots, pans and a two cup espresso maker. The shower was to die for! Plus there was... More

Was relatively easy to find the office and parking was available. The rooms are separate from the office, a 150 metre walk mostly on steps but fun. We looked at three rooms available and chose the smallest (and cheapest) which was still reasonably spacious and because we were there after the holiday season, was excellent value. Breakfast was supplied in... More

The idea of living in a cave is great; this cave, though, had some problems. The location of this residence is excellent. It's a little hard to find, but one can easily walk all around the old city from it. (Beware, there are LOTS of steps everywhere.) I don't know how this place compares to others in town, but, seeing... More
