We had one of the cave rooms, 303, that is a long walk down the hill (and up again!) from reception. It was an interesting stay, but I found the room, with no natural light, quite claustrophobic. It was also quite dusty, but we put that down to it being a cave. Bed a bit hard for my taste. We... More

We stayed here for two nights. Each room was in partial "cave" but had all the comforts of a conventional hotel. The view from the hotel makes this place special. The hotel is built on a hill and you must walk on stone stairs to go between buildings, which could be difficult for some people. Also, you cannot bring a... More

I don't think I will ever forget the view from this hotel, I think it's one of the most beautiful views I have seen in my life. The hotel is in the middle of the Sassi. We had two rooms, one of them a suite with the terrace overlooking the Sassi, and we spent there a lot of time just enjoying... More

Enjoy dwelling the streets of Matera, and before you do: just park your car in Via XX septembre (enter through Via Roma), ask its nice parking host to call the Sassi hotel to pick up your suitcases. Walk to the hotel with your handluggage only. Matera is not yet well known to masses of foreign tourists, and this hotel may... More

The breakfast here was really delicious. The room we stayed in was clean and big. You cannot park close to this hotel but we found a parking garage nearby and walked there with our luggage. It was neat to stay Ina a room that was carved out of the rock! The staff was friendly.

We stayed at Hotel Sassi for three nights, and it was great. Fantastic location, great views of the sassi, comfortable and clean. My 6-year-old loved having her own private loft bed. Breakfast was substantial and delicious, and we loved the made-to-order espresso bar. Staff was friendly, helpful, and English speaking. Overall, a great place to experience the breathtaking city of... More

The rooms were nice and clean, but breakfast was pour not only because the options were limited but also there was not enough, especially for those who took breakfast at the last hour. Most of the employees couldn't speak English, only Italian, which makes communication difficult. However the location is idyllic, the view is fantastic and the experience of living... More

Very well located, we stayed in a cave room, nice that's it. Suites are better. Our fridge was empty so provide your water if you want to drink something at night. The hotel has beautiful views of the sassi. Staff isn't really helpful and breakfast is average. If you have a car you can park in the nearby parking lot.

I and my family stayed in this wonderful hotel at the peak of the hot summer (August). What a relief when we were shown our cave room, which could have easily slept 10 people! It was massive, and cool, with multiple levels. There were three bathrooms in our cave room, and although they weren't by any means "flash," they suited... More
