The room was comfortable in the heart of the sassi, short walks to any where, the steps to the hotel could cause problems, (there were a few). staff were helpful breakfast was good. Can get noisy from people parting but not overboard. Great restaurants, pubs and tour guides.

The breakfast here was really delicious. The room we stayed in was clean and big. You cannot park close to this hotel but we found a parking garage nearby and walked there with our luggage. It was neat to stay Ina a room that was carved out of the rock! The staff was friendly.

We stayed at Hotel Sassi for three nights, and it was great. Fantastic location, great views of the sassi, comfortable and clean. My 6-year-old loved having her own private loft bed. Breakfast was substantial and delicious, and we loved the made-to-order espresso bar. Staff was friendly, helpful, and English speaking. Overall, a great place to experience the breathtaking city of... More

The rooms were nice and clean, but breakfast was pour not only because the options were limited but also there was not enough, especially for those who took breakfast at the last hour. Most of the employees couldn't speak English, only Italian, which makes communication difficult. However the location is idyllic, the view is fantastic and the experience of living... More

Very well located, we stayed in a cave room, nice that's it. Suites are better. Our fridge was empty so provide your water if you want to drink something at night. The hotel has beautiful views of the sassi. Staff isn't really helpful and breakfast is average. If you have a car you can park in the nearby parking lot.

I and my family stayed in this wonderful hotel at the peak of the hot summer (August). What a relief when we were shown our cave room, which could have easily slept 10 people! It was massive, and cool, with multiple levels. There were three bathrooms in our cave room, and although they weren't by any means "flash," they suited... More

Nothing in the sassi area is really easy to find, but this hotel is worth searching out. It has amazing views of the sassi and the cathedral. The staff is exceptionally helpful and breakfast is amazing. If you have a car you can park in the nearby Damesco parking lot for 10 euro/night.

We stayed here with our toddler in November 2012. We had a large en-suite 'cave' room with a small balcony and a great view. They provided us with a cotbed and bedding. The hotel is well located, very close to the centre of town, but if you are with a toddler, there are steps (but the whole of matera is... More

I was in Matera August 11th to August 14th. The city is absolutely splendid, like no other city in the world. It is the most natural movie setting in the world.the likes of Pier Paolo Pasolini,Mel Gibson and other big directors have shot in this spectacular town. The hotel Sassi ( stones literally translated) is very quaint, it has a... More
