Words cannot describe this amazing town. So pleased to come before it gets overrun by tourists. Hotel Basiliani is in converted caves on edge of gorge with spectacular views. Simple modern , minimalist furnishings but with great style. Guisippe " rescued" us and our luggage from the nearby piazza with a lovely smile and strong arms to carry our suitcases... More

Matera was the highlight of the trip and hotel Basiliani was a great value. Giuseppe has built a sophisticated hotel that will surely meet your needs. Clean, spacious rooms, good internet, great views, and delicious breakfast.

Beautiful hotel in a spectacular location. The attention to service and cleanliness was second to none. Great breakfast which included a healthy selection of fresh fruits served in a most unique dining area. Huge comfortable "cave" rooms meticulously maintained overlooking the canyon the sassi is built in. Matera is a very interesting city with a wonderfully vibrant atmosphere at night.... More

This lovely, ultramodern hotel, built into the caves of Matera's amazing Sassi Caveoso area, was one of the highlights of our recent month in Europe. The rooms are large -- huge, in fact. The owner is hands-on and extremely service oriented. The location is wonderful. Several excellent restaurants are nearby. We simply can't say enough good things about this place.... More

We were a group of 6 couples..Giuseppe and Gabriela we helpful, polite and accommodating from the first e-mail to the hotel until the day we left. Giuseppe offers extraordinary service. PERFECT!! We got lost trying to find the hotel due to road closures but the hotel owner came to pick us up and we followed his van to the square, then walked to Basiliani. Words can't describe how amazing the hotel & Matera are. Stunning views, a feeling of being immersed in hundreds, even thousands, of years of human history,... More

We had a fine, 2-night stay with our 2 teens at the Hotel Basiliani. Our 2-story suite was impeccably clean and furnished in a modern fashion. Beds were comfortable and shower was great. Breakfast was served in the main building and was above average, buffet-style with specialty coffees made to order by very attentive staff. Best of all was the... More

If you wish to image how the people of Matera lived throughout their 10,000 year history, this is the place. Basiliani Hotel is a cluster of independent rooms, half of which are built in rock. Our room was expertly designed and included all modern amenities for comfortable living. Although the traveler cannot drive up to the front door, this was... More
