I with a group of 18 people visited Matera and hotel Basiliani for a 2 nite staying. A hotel with spartan but spacious rooms. Incredible, breathtaking views from our room. Great breakfast and excellent service. Grazie. Susan A.

If you visit the wonderful city of Matera you really should stay in the sassi area. After all, this is what makes Matera so different from other cities, both in Italy and worldwide. Given that starting point, I can highly recommend the Basilicata Hotel. Here you have the chance to live in a boutique cave for a while! Ours was... More

Matera is a one of kind place that I highly recommend. The access to Hotel Basiliani is difficult at best. We had a two night reservation and elected to leave after the first night because access was so inconvenient. A few days before we arrived, we received an email from the hotel telling us to park over a mile away... More

What a gem of a place. Five nights here and it was amazing. Staff so very helpful. Room with a view! Beautiful. I couldn't wait to get out of bed and open the windows as the views and Matera are stunning. So quiet and peaceful. We would certainly stay here again. We had everything we needed here. We parked our... More

This is a very nice hotel in an exceptional place. The position overlooking the gorge and the National Park couldn't be better, especially when it came to watching the firework display on the night of the Festa! The room was spacious and clean, although it wasn't one of the cave rooms which was my only regret. The breakfast was very... More

It was an adventure to find the hotel in this medieval town. No roads, only paths. Exactly all this give the jump to the past and make you forget about false valuables of life. Hotel is great - we had 2 storied house with ravine view and stylish design. The breakfast was also great with famous local bread and olive... More

A lovely stay in the marvellous Matera. This is a unique hotel, very quiet and if staying in a cave is your thing it does it very well. Others have commented on the damp - it's a cave - but it was not a problem for us. In very quiet area - good nights sleep. Only downside was the service... More

The hotel is a very unique space. The room we had (111) was very big and comfortably accommodated 4 people. It was very clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was delicious and quite different than expected in Italian hotels with lots of fruit, eggs, ham, cheese, etc. Guiseppe (the owner) is a very helpful and friendly guy who knows the area... Arriving by taxi - i was glad the driver could have the converstion on the phone with the hotel - as to how to get there. You have to have permission to park in the square outside St Peters church - and this is required as this area is at the end of a long slope. Once there we were... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was a really good experience. The views from outside the rooms are amazing. We slept very well in the "cave". It also has tea / coffee on the room. You can also sit outside the room in the afternoon and relax. The staff are very helpful. The only thing to note is... More
