This has to be one of my best ever hotels. The view is sensational. The rooms are excellent and modern. Good wifi. Giuseppe was fantastic fetched us from the square and took our luggage back at the end. He was so helpful. Super spot for a short walk to many good restaurants. Stay here

We had a fine, 2-night stay with our 2 teens at the Hotel Basiliani. Our 2-story suite was impeccably clean and furnished in a modern fashion. Beds were comfortable and shower was great. Breakfast was served in the main building and was above average, buffet-style with specialty coffees made to order by very attentive staff. Best of all was the... More

If you wish to image how the people of Matera lived throughout their 10,000 year history, this is the place. Basiliani Hotel is a cluster of independent rooms, half of which are built in rock. Our room was expertly designed and included all modern amenities for comfortable living. Although the traveler cannot drive up to the front door, this was... More

The location is Perfect to visit the historic places, as soon you open the door you have the cave houses (sassi cavernoso) right in Front, amazing. The negativ point is that is an area redtricted for cars, so you have to park in an area nearby. But by the other side the staff (Giuseppe was very kind and explained everything... More

We had 1 night at this hotel, and would happily have stayed longer if time had of permitted. The room was large, comfy, immaculately clean and has stunning view Staff were very welcoming and breakfast was scrumptious. Matera is gorgeous, parking interesting in the old part of town near the hotel. Amazing town and perfect hotel to enjoy it from.

We spent a night in one of the cave rooms of the Basiliani - and had one of the soundest sleeps on our trip! The hotel is on the edge if the canyon and in the oldest area of sassis ( cave dwellings). It was totally silent at night. The staff are extremely helpful - picking us and our luggage... More

Just stayed in the Basiliani Hotel (Room 111) for a couple of days. The room was very large (for a cave), minimal furniture and a really special feeling. Woke up every morning to amazing views of the gorge opposite. In addition the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had a really special time there. Ac couple of things to... More

Staying in the very heart of Sassi Caveoso, the old sassi quarter of Matera, is magic. Even more if your room (110) is literally facing the canyon. If on top of that, the rooms are decorated minimalistic-modern-cool, are quiet, the beds comfortable, the breakfast is great and the staff is lovely, then you have all elements of a perfect and... So good I didn't want to share this find. Sure, others have already given stellar reviews, but the more people rave about it, the harder it will be to find free rooms. But fair is fair and Basiliani deserves the best ratings. Period. And Matera too. My first visit was 20 years ago. I returned this time with a wife... More

The hotel is located in the heart of Sasso Caveoso, Matera. It has opened in 2010. There are eleven large rooms with independent access and all the modern technological comforts. They are partly built and partly caved out of the local tufa stone. They evoke the fascination of the prehistoric caves that you can see from the windows on the opposite Murgia plateau, site of the Archaelogical Park of Rupestrian Churches. ... more   less
