The positives: the setting with a magnificient view over Matera, peggy the dog, the building of the residence - very beautiful typical Matera sassi building. The negatives: humidity, humidity, humidity, wet sheets, very unconfortable beds, dirty and humid carpets, stench due to humidity, average breakfast. Experience not to be repeated. Caught a cold in the process. To be honest i... More

I stayed in Matera for 2 nights at Residence San Pietro Barisano. There are over a hundred B&Bs to choose from, so I was overwhelmed during my research. But I am SO glad I stayed here. For me the most important things about staying in a B&B are 1) location 2) people (owners) 3) comfort of the rooms. 1) The... More

We stayed one night in that unique place. We had a very big cave (room) which was a bit cold but very spacious, including a kitchen . The only problem we met was that it was very hard to find the place and the parking

If you are lloking for a good quiet place with a great view and a good price then you need to come to this place. We stayed here for 3 nights and had no complains. The only things you need to consider is that the rooms are carved out on the hillside thus a bit humid. However a dehumidifier (... More

My friends and I visited Matera now, in February 2013, and stayed only 1 night. We had dinner and slept at San Pietro Barisano residence, and were totally amazed by it! The rooms are actually furnished caves in the mountain, super romantic (for couples) and super special (for everybody). Everything very clean, very neat, no complaints whatsoever. We even had... The room was beautiful until we had to sleep in it. Our sheets and blankets were damp, and the room was too hot. I asked the owner to turn the air conditioning on. He came into the room picking up pillows and throwing the crib mattress back into the crib. While he was doing this he was yelling and cursing... More

We read rave reviews before finally choosing this place, however the moment we got there the nightmare started! After finding the correct parking lot, which was missmarked, we made our way to the hotel, careful to avoid all the dog crap along the way. At check-in management could not articulate to us what documentation was required, as they need to... More

We had the deluxe room. Besides the fridge not working, the room was spacious, clean and inside a cave. It could fit a family of 4. It was an awesome place. The room is a little dam and cold, but they provided a humidifier. Wifi worked in the bathroom of our room and outside in the courtyard. Unfortunately the staffs... More

Matera is a magical place and this property is magical also. Rooms were modern, clean, spacious, very quiet and unusual as you would expect in a cave. Staff very friendly and helpful. Parking is only a few steps away and you are right in the middle of Barisano and the Sassi.

We stayed in February 2012. We had plenty of heat and were very comfortable. I stayed in the room "Clio." My cousin stayed in "Tersico." Her room had a slight musty smell, but hey, it's a cave. Our rooms could not receive the wi-fi (probably because we were in a cave), so we took our computers to the restaurant whenever... More
