Le Monacelle is an old convent attached to the Duomo in Matera. You have to stash your car on the pizza and walk a short distance down a narrow street to the entrance, so make sure your bags aren't big or are on wheels. Matera is a surreal place, and this is a fitting hotel for a recovering Catholic. The... More

I love this hotel. I am here at least once a year for business and you can't beat the meeting rooms and views at this hotel. All the rooms are roomy and nice. The terrace has a breathtaking view of the Sassi. It has several meeting rooms, a library, an outside court yard, a nice breakfast area that leads out... More

Unlike some of the negative reviews posted here, I had an excellent stay alle Monacelle. I stayed in the dormitory, and lucky for me, I was the only one in the entire 18 bed dorm. Everything was clean, the two baths were excellent (no problems at all with the hot water as complained another guest), and I found the front... More

I was there 3 days, and it sounds a common hotel based really near the city centre... which are amazing!! strongly suggest to visit Matera, but if you can find other place to sleep and rest would be nice to serch more! The room ii was had no hot water, no heater working... so.. not so good!

We travelled in April and stayed in Matera for 2 nights. Ten of us from Zimbabwe. We found this Hostel superb. The views from the terrace are stunning. Our dormitory accommodation was just great. Comfortable beds, Four private showers, and as many sinks were more than adequate for us. The Hostel is right next to the Duomo, and all is... More

I booked a two night stay at this hotel as part of a two week holiday. Once we were already in Italy, I realised we needed to change the booking. I emailed the hotel to enquire. It being the low season (October) I didn't think there would be a big problem. I included my Italian mobile number, and asked that... More

Sleeping in one of its guests rooms, where once the cloistered nuns and the noblewomen in spiritual retreat lived, is a very unique experience! Infact it was a convent once! You breath an utter tranquility within its old stone walls, on the ground floor there is a little church..but the magic begins the moment you enter the terraces on the... More
