Visited Madrid with my wife in July 2015, and since we only had one night there I decided to take a cheap place. Only 39 Euros per night. The rooms are not top quality, but you've got everything you might need, and the two gay guys who own the place are very friendly and helpful.

Hostal Pizarro offers a great value not too far from Gran Via and the center of the action of Chueca. My room was a decent size and there is a good-sized common area with a television, a computer and tourist maps and the like (the rooms also feature TVs). The furniture is standard Ikea, but it's all comfortable. I also... More

Hotel is located in quiet street, so you can sleep in peace. Rooms are tiny and a bit worn out. We had window, but you could not see anything but wall. No places to hang anything. But Pizarro is ok if you only want a place to sleep and price is not high. You can have te and water for... More

Very affordable hostal close to many tapas bars and the shopping of Gran Via and Sol. No breakfast is served, there are facilities to make your own though, although with all the cheap breakfast offers in the bars nearby this is not really an issue.

We've been there for almost a week and were Just pleased to feel the warmth reception of the staff. The room were tiny but cosy. Though the hotel were quite full we didn't hear any annoying sound or disturbance. The location was particulary good for us as it was very close to the callao and the gran via buzz but... More

The staff was super friendly, the hotel is located right in the centre of the city. Our room was nice, tidy and clean, and the bathroom was modern, spacious and clean. The only minus point is the noise: the walls are quite thin and you can hear your neighbours.

stayed 4 nights at the Pizarro in February, we arrived at lunchtime but we're told by a lady who spoke very little English that we couldn't have our room yet. Although disappointed I felt a little sorry for her, being left to hold the fort, so we came to an agreement that we could leave our bags while we went... More

Went on our honeymoon to Spain and took a trip to Madrid. We stayed in another hotel too to get a perspective of the whole area and Hostal Pizarro was a much better location and price. Great value and clean room with a closet for hanging up my nice dresses and a safe for our passports and my jewelry. Would... More

We stayed here for two nights exploring Madrid, and I can't think of a single complaint. The staff were so helpful, allowing us to check in early as soon as we arrived (which was greatly appreciated by our jet lagged selves!). The rooms are simple but comfortable and clean. The bathrooms even have toiletries, an amenity I was not anticipating.... More

After I wrote the title, I was worried that some people would interpret a five-star price as expensive. Actually, it was really very affordable. The pictures on the website don't do justice at all. In reality, it's much nicer. It's clean. The staff are all accommodating. They have WiFi throughout the hostel and two new iMacs in the lobby. We... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
