This was THE worst travelling I ever had with any sort of accomodation!!! I'd just arrived with my parents and husband from Barcelona, by train. It was almost one am. The taxi driver could't find the location, he drove us to Hostal No. 2, just some blocks away, and then, looking up at the right address was my cue that... More

Next to Puerta del Sol. Location is the best of this hotel. Clean, good for people that just want a clean room to spend the night. Decoration is old fashion but the room suited our needs. Ps.: It's not easy to find it, you must look to the top of the building to find that the hotel is the 3rd... More

We booked a 3 bed room with private bathroom for less than £60 per night. Great central location. Hostel means family run hotel in Spain. Small but spotlessly clean rooms. Our room faced inward which was good as hostel building is on a busy road. No breakfast option but few options close by. The place is managed by friendly staff... More

I stayed here with a friend of mine in October 2012 and had a very positive experience; I can confirm the other positive reviews here. First, the location is great: in a good neighborhood, only a short walk from Sol or Sevilla metro stations, and with plenty of restaurants in the area. Also, even though we arrived just after noon... Location is excellent. 1min to Sol and metro station. easy walk access to all main city scenic spots. A wide variety of restaurants and souvenior shops all around. Room is small but tidy equipped with TV, air-con, locker, bathroom (including bath-kit and towers, hair dryer), closet, fridge. What's more, we have a balcony oversigh Sol. WIFI is available. We booked... More

I chose Hostal Victoris III based on the reviews on Tripadvisor. Must say it was almost exactly as expected - very very basic and quite a small room, but clean, and safe. the location is superb - very close to the Puerta del Sol, walking distance to Gran Via area as well as Museo del Prado. Yes, the staff does... More

With the low season offers at 35 euro for a double room ensuite it’s the cheaper accomodation in Madrid city centre. Just few steps from Sol, so very noisy area: ask for an internal room to sleep quietly. Small rooms but comfortable with complete bathroom. Same owner of Victoria I and II in Sol square. ...

I stayed at the hostal Victoria III on carriera san jeronimo with my friend in the summer of 2010 while the World Cup Final was on, but I know they also have 2 other locations in Madrid. The location that we stayed at was FANTASTIC, extremely close to EVERYTHING. it was literally one road from plaza sol and a 10... More

Location excellent, centrally located within a block of the Sol central square where all the metros connect. Hotel does have elevator, which although small accomodated 2 people and 2 suitcases (tight squeeze). Entry is locked and staff buzzes you in so very good security for your peace of mind. Room was good size, with window you could step out to... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
