My mom and I stayed at the Eden Neptuno . We read the reviews previously and the fact that it was in the center of everything we booked it...The hotel has all the basic things you need. It is not a five star hotel but it isn't a hostel either. We had a very clean room with above average furniture,... More

I stayed here with a group of 13 friends in mid-June 2011. Overall, we were very pleasantly surprised with the hotel. It has a great location just a few seconds from the Plaza del Sol. This is a great location to stay in if you want to walk around Madrid, as from this location, we covered pretty much the whole... More

We stayed here, in a triple room and we had a most enjoyable stay. We definitely would stay in this hotel if we were to visit Madrid again. We wanted for nothing here, and the multlingual staff were so nice. The hotel is located right beside Sol Metro and Gran Via Metro is at the other end of the Montera... More

We requested a room away from the street as we had heard it could be noisy. We also requested extra pillows because other reviews said the pillows were thin. Easy to ride the mietro practically right to the door (only about 200ft from the metro). When we arrived within 5 minutes 2 different maids brought our extra pillows. And we... More

I booked this hotel after reading all the reviews on trip advisor. I read lots of warnings about noise and paper thin walls. We got an inside room (not facing the busy street) and the room was clean and very quiet. It's located about 20 paces from the SOL metro stop and so was an absolutely perfect location. It was... Great location. Friendly helpful staff. Breakfast adequate. probably better for young people who want to be up all night as the noise in the early hours is constant. On the other hand it is good to hear the streets during the day and evening.

- Location: Excellent location, 50 meters away from Puerta del Sol, and for a two star hotel it's very good. It has elevator and a comfortable room, it has minibar and the room is quite modern (as the bathroom). Nice shower. - Staff: The reception staff was nice and helpful, except for one girl who wouldn't take care of our... More

First time with husband and friends in June 2010. As we were very pleased with the hotel, I returned with friends in March 2011. The hotel is really in the heart of Madrid. It is close to the underground, but actually we walked a lot and it is close to any place. Even if it is quite noicy in the... More

Hotel is steps from the puerta del sol and minutes to the plaza mayor an other sites. Close to metro stops so getting around is not a problem. Near many great restaurants and the la latina district for great tapas. Staff is friendly and offers great information in English to guests. The men who manned the front desk were quite... More

Small hotel. Average room. Simple breakfast (nothing too fancy) but location is the absolute best. Only one real problem for me: walls are paper thin and you can hear everything coming from other rooms and corridors. People at the reception very friendly indeed. Good for a 3night stay.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
