I stayed in this hostel last month. It was clean, well organised and had the most amazing staff. I enjoyed my stay there and would stay there if I were to visit Madrid. The location of the hostel so close to Puerta del sol is ideal and makes it easy to see places of interest close by.

I enjoed my experience with them from top to bottom. They gave excellent directions to the hostel via email so that there was no getting lost. The staff were very friendly and personable. They provided excellent information about going around Madrid. It was a great place.

Godd hostel right in the centre of Madrid, a few meters form the puerta del sol. The place is clean, staff is almost present 24/7 and makes sure you have a nice stay. Rooms have airco and good windows so you don't hear the street noise. The hostel is generally quiet at night and allows you to have a good... More

Great location and a great welcome from the Australian girl that works there. The beds aren't that comfortable, nor are the pillows, but the rooms are nice in that they're aren't bunk beds like most hostels. The best part is the community feel here, there is dinner every night and some sort of event every night as well. I went... More

The hostel was great, exceedingly friendly staff, lots of planned activities and mealtimes. The location was within walking distance of all the important sites and quite a few nice bars. The beds were comfortable if a bit minimal and the showers and bathrooms very clean.

Nicole from Aussieland was just an adorable hostess at this hostel. She was always beaming with smiles and ready to answer questions. Not only that, she could make recommendations to help your stay be more enjoyable. Accommodations were good and the London Chef Will helps tantalize your tastebuds with his nightly dinners. Only drawback to this place was 3 flights... More

This is the hostel I will compare all others to! Of course, it has everything all good hostels have: great location (walking distance to major sights), clean bathrooms and showers, nice rooms with decent beds. What sets Sungate apart is its amazing staff. They really take the time to engage with guests and make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. There's... More

Friendly staff, they are happy to give you advise on your trip, free city map and metro route map, perfect arrangement of free dinner which all guests and staff can sit together and know each other. Centre location near metro station, supermarket, bar and restaurant. Strongly recommended.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
