My mother and I stayed here at the beginning and again at the end of our 17 day trip to Spain. We were warmly welcomed even though we arrived a couple of hours before check-in, and since our room had already been cleaned, we were able to move in, take showers and get some shut eye before heading out to... Pros: price, location, owners - super kind and helpful, even lwith little English knowledge. Cons: toilets and bathrooms on the corridor, cleaned daily but still stank and dirty. Old, tired furniture.

If you're looking for location at a great price, this is a good option. Just steps off of Puerta del Sol in the heart of Madrid, and the rates are very good. It's not luxurious and you may have to share a bathroom, but you really can't beat the price + location combo. My room had a shower, which was... More

This adorable little place is situated right in the heart of Madrid. We felt as if we had our own little apartment during our stay. Two minute walk to Puerta Del Sol, Plaza Mayor and other popular areas. The rooms are small, but spotless and have everything you need including a fridge and fresh towels. The hosts were very sweet... More

We slept in hostal 3 nights. We had cozy room with a bathroom. Room was clean and tidy. Hostal is located in heart of Madrid. In all attractions is few minutes walk. Around is a lot of restaurants and tapas bars. If you request in hostal they can clean every day room and give u fresh towels. We enjoyed our... More

Right in the middle of Madrid, a 20 minute walk from the main train station (or 3 metro stations). Room had a desk, a fridge, air conditioning, our own bathroom and a sound system (not sure who chooses the music for this, but it was okay). There was no communal kitchen area, but the owners provided us with cutlery and... More

nice hosts (mother and son), they helped me booking a Flamenco show nice location, near the police station and MacDonald, somehow I feel safe it's noisy at night, but it's noisy whole downtown, so I can get used to it the so called breakfast is a pack of supermarket bread, and coffee/tea packs

Booked via Hotels.com. Tried calling Hostal Comercial to confirm check in time prior to upcoming reservation as per instructions. Unfortunately the language barrier did not help, with the poor woman repeating "you email?" And me repeating "what's the address? Email address please?". Both their website and every other website only lists a telephone number. Fingers crossed I still have a... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
