Super location close to everything and not at all a hostal. Wifi worked perfectly, rooms were super small including the bathroom but then again we were never in it , just to sleep. Very clean rooms and very cozy. I would return again.

Perfect location. A few minutes walk to Plaza Mayor and Sol. Rooms are nice and clean, cozy and friendly. My room even has a small shower inside! A balcony with flowers. For the price it is a steal. I guess their reputation precedes them. You really have to book online in advance as they are always full if one just... More

Whether you want a convenient stop over or a base from which to explore Madrid and if you do not want a chain with its lack of character this hostel is great. So European. It is like a flat has been converted into a small hotel. The entrance is like a Glasgow tenement but with hotels on each floor rather... More

To say that I have enjoyed my stay is an understatement. First of all it's in a perfect location, right off Puerta del Sol on Esparteros and a 1-2 minute walk to Plaza Major with the main sites and entertainment places close by. The staff is very helpful and would go out of their way to give you tips on... More

This is an excellent, centrally located place to stay in Madrid. The staff are very friendly and helpful with basic English. The place is very clean with a nice homely feel. Our room was a little stuffy with only a small fan and was in fact quite small. Regardless we'd stay here again given location and price. Great value for... More

I loved staying here. Having my own keys gave me a sense of freedom that I loved. Like I was living in Madrid. And right next to SOL made it super convenient. I had a beautiful mural on my wall which made up for the lack of natural light (I had an interior room...it was cheaper). Again for a solo... More

We loved this beautiful little hostal with very convenient position in central Madrid. The tiles and old wooden stairs feel welcoming and the staff makes you feel at home. The room has everything you need including free mini breakfast and a rather good city plan. Cosy tiny balconies that unfortunately have the AC taking up space. Relatively quiet street and... More

My friend and I decided to each get our own double room at Hostal Comercial because the cost was so reasonable. We stayed 6 nights (May 14-19, 2014) and had everything we needed. Wifi was excellent. Great location and was able to walk everywhere (Prado, Retiro, Palace). Rooms are small but very adequate. Appreciated the very sunny and airy room... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
