Great location! The room was large and clean, the bed was comfortable and most importantly - the staff was excellent - always very friendly! The only drawback was the room window - it faced the inner space of the building so practically the only view was other windows...

If you're looking for a locally owned and managed hostal in a great location, Triana fits the bill. Walking distance to just about anything and everything of interest and steps from three different metro stops for anything you'd rather not walk to. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable with helpful management that speaks a lot better English than my Spanish. Lots of... More

I traveled alone to Madrid (with my small dog) speaking no Spanish and took a chance on Hostal Triana for 4 nights, based on TA reviews. Very relieved to find these reviews were accurate. Very friendly staff, excellent location, and inner courtyard was quiet (except for some noisy guests outside the room). Reminded me of the hotels I stayed in... More

Hotel is in a good location and clean but the proprietor, Victor, could have been more professional in handling stress. My booking was arranged by a friend as early as April but when we reach there our names did not appear in the list. The daughter accommodate us but when the father, Victor, arrived, he made us leave the room.... More

Our room was medium size with a matrimonial bed. The bed was hard and you could feel the springs. The pillows were flat, the sheets were thin and rough and so were the towels. We were unable to sleep for 2 nights due to the excessive noise of neighbouring rooms. There was minimal security. You have to leave your key... More

My wife and I stayed at Hostal Triana. First visit for her and 3rd for me (3x in 4 years). The accommodations have been consistent over time: basic, clean, comfortable and the same pleasant staff. Victor, the owner, is very helpful as are the receptionists. Location is amazing: near Sol, Plaza Mayor and the unbelievable La Mallorquina bakery. The Gran... More

We stumbled upon this hostal--it's really more like a small hotel--quite by accident and were beyond 100% happy with it!! We had a room with a balcony overlooking a small and active plaza...and spent the latter part of each evening looking off the balcony, sipping a beer and watching the activity in the plaza. It couldn't have been a more... More

My bf and I stayed here for two nights while in Madrid. It was great! 49 euros a night and we had a great balcony that overlooked plaza del Carmen. It was very close to plaza del sol. Owners do not speak English so try to pick up a few words. Even though it is pretty noisy in the wee... More

Superb location – almost everything's within walking reach. The rooms themselves are a bit small, but tasteful. Rooms were cleaned spotlessly everyday. The walls are a bit thin, so it's not completely silent if the neighbours decide to make a din. But with so much to do outside, definitely not a deal breaker. The entrance to the building also has... I stayed here for a long weekend. The location is excellent - very central. You can easily walk to almost everything you'd want to visit, and the metro station is nearby, so it's easy to get to and from the airport. There's lots of places to eat within a couple of minutes. My single room was very small but spotlessly... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
