This superbly situated hotel right by el Parque del Retiro in downtown Madrid was just what I needed after an exhausting six hour drive from Lisbon. It's clean, modern and easily sophisticated without being too fussy. The complimentary breakfast in the morning room was delightful and delicious. I highly recommend this hotel for business travelers and families wanting to experience... More

This is an old and nicely refurbished hotel. We were coming by train from somewhere else and I called the Hotel to ask what was the best way to get there by Cercanias (train). They were very clear in the explanations and told me exactly the best route for me. Monica at the front desk spoke perfect english. It was... More

Stayed in late August for two nights as a brief stop-over on way home from southern Spain; situated in a quiet back street just off Plaza Independencia, very modern well presented reception with excellent service. Travelling as a family of four, we'd asked for two rooms, next to each other on a high floor and our request was fully satisfied... More

This is the first time we've ever stayed in one of Marriott's Autograph Collection hotels. It's in an old building that has been refurbished beautifully. The bathroom, in particular, was amazing! The front desk staff was very nice and helpful, especially with recommendations for places to eat. The hotel is in a nice, quiet residential neighborhood, requiring a nice walk... More

Standard AC room so don't expect much, but the staff ate very friendly and best of all is the location - just 5 minutes to the main roundabout for public transportation and the main shopping area and most top attractions in Madrid. Good value for money in total.

We stayed here for 3 nights during our recent visit to Madrid. We booked two rooms for the 4 of us (2 adults and two teenagers). The location is very close to couple of Metro stations, walking distance to the Retiro Park, high end shopping and several museums including the Prado Museum. The neighborhood has many small cafes and restaurants.... More

Stayed 5 nights with my wife and 19 year old son and couldn't have been happier. As expected, the room was a bit tight w/ a rollaway bed but that had very liitle impact, as we mostly just slept and showered (often as the 2015 heatwave persisted). The hotel is immaculate and modern. The staff very friendly and location is... More

The AC Recoletos by Marriott is perfectly located for a Madrid visit. We spent three nights and could not have been happier. The room was perfect. We walked everywhere and completed our bucket list of activities due to its splendid location and it right next to, perhaps, one of the finest public parks we've ever been in. Btw, we are... More

We stayed at the AC Recoletos for 2 nights in June and had a lovely stay here. Check in was easy and Monica was so helpful, asked us if it was our first time in Madrid and highlighted some areas of interest for us on a map and gave us directions to help find our bearings. The hotel room itself... More

The hotel is next to the Archaeological Museum and in a hip neighborhood. Cafes and restaurants surround the area. We loved the Archaeology Museum and walked to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum from the hotel too. On the same street was a seafood tapas restaurant that served delicious oysters on the half shell.

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighborhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighborhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
