Most of all, friendly and polite owner, make you feel homely. Nice, clean room with tiny bathroom. Excellent location. Few steps, pretty much, to everywhere. No more to say. Definitely I would stay there again.

Greate place to stay in when visiting city. Close to the most important parts of the city. During day we got on foot to Kings Palace and biggest city park in Madrid. During night it is in the middle of city life. Greate host, clean and pleasant rooms. I recomend you staying there.

I spent a couple of nights here and found it perfectly clean and comfortable. Considering the convenient location and recently remodeled bathroom, it was a true bargain. The owner was friendly and easy-going and her daughter was very helpful when I checked in. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit to Madrid.

I stayed here in late October. The owner & manager, Maria, is very warm and friendly, but it felt the whole time like I was staying in the private home of a host family (albeit a pleasant one). In the evening, the TV was blaring, family members were having loud conversations in the hallways, and other travellers were nowhere to... More

I stayed in this hostel in May 2012 and the room had everything I needed (shower, basin). The toilets were outside but it was invariably clean. The landlady is very friendly and helpful. It gives a glimpse into Spanish 'simpatía'. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good service, a central location (close to Puerta del Sol -... More

I stayed here in May 2011. It can be a pain with luggage. I made a reservation via the hostels email address. The woman that owns it was extremely friendly. She gave me wonderful directions to the hostel for the metro from the airport. Her son (i think) greeted us as we arrived to the front door. The rooms were... More

Just a couple of blocks from Puerta del Sol, but quite quiet at night. Our room was simple, with a shower and sink in the room (toilets were down the hall). The place was very clean, and the feeling was homey. The owners live there, were helpful, and speak fluent English. The only downside is that the hostal is on... More

The only downside to this hostel is that you have to go up a lot of steps. Otherwise, it was very nice and clean. Bathrooms are down the hall. In a very good location, near the Metro stop Sol. Owners speak English. I chose this hostel because it was recommended in a travel book called "Let's Go Spain & Portugal"... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
