I stayed in Room Mate Laura for the second time, having really enjoyed my previous stay there. As ever, the staff are polite, friendly and helpful. The rooms are modern, spacious and clean and well equipped. The location between Gran Via, Opera and Sol and about 8 minutes walk to Plaza Mayor is excellent.

We spent only one night in Room Mate Laura and found it to be perfect! The room was large, clean and comfortable, the front desk service was fantastic, and the breakfast was varied and delicious. I look forward to staying at other Room Mate hotels in the future.

We stayed 4 nights in a spacious top floor suite that had a separate living room/kitchen. Modern & clean, comfortable bed. The bathroom particularly the shower cubicle was very small. As our room was on the top floor the slope of the ceiling was a little challenging resulting in several bumped heads! Occasional outside noise could be heard & a... More

We spent 4 nights at the Room Mate Laura in early March 2015 and found it to be an excellent choice for a city break. The location could not be better - right in the heart of Old Madrid on the Plaza de Santa Ana. We were within a few minutes walk of the major art galleries and close to... More

Stayed at this hotel for several nights. We had booked a duplex but were upgraded to a penthouse at check-in and were told it was a better room. The desk staff is very friendly and accommodating. There is free wifi and they gave us a mobile wifi to take with us so that we could connect while we were around... More

It's taken a while to write my review, we stayed in October 14 but this hotel certainly deserves some positive feedback. The hotel is well situated centrally and within walking distance of most notable attractions. We were upgraded to a duplex room which was very spacious, clean and comfortable and was like a home from home. The reception staff were... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
