The price is right. The breakfast is good. The location is perfect. Right close to the Metro and the bus line. The staff is pleasant and very helpful. The rooms are bright and cheerful. The area is quiet. Would stay there again.

The location is tops ! For 5 euros, one can catch the Metro in any Barajas terminals into Madrid (#8) to change to #10 then #5 to the Opera Metro station at the front entrance of Teatro Real. Then it is only a 100 meter walk off plaza to the hotel. There is a nicely stocked grocery store right next... More

Cant fault the hotel, exceptional price about 230 euros for 2 nights (total) plus 30 per night for additional bed. Couldn't get more central, friendly and helpful staff and great breakfast for 8 euros. Nothing fancy but perfectly comfortable and quiet. Definitely a high recommendation from me.

Stayed here for six nights. The hotel is extremely clean and nicely decorated. The rooms are very nice size... The location is great, only three minutes from Opera metro, 10 minute walk to Puerta del Sol, Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor. The front desk people are very friendly and helpful and speak very good English.. FYI-There's a small supermarket about... More

Me and my girlfriend stayed here in March for a weekend in Madrid. The location is amazing (just by Gran Via and super close to Plaza Mayor) and we were very happy with our room! One negative thing however was the cacophony of sounds every night as some big truck went by the building. The reception said they're having it... More

I stayed at Room Mate Mario for the first time for 3 nights. It's location was the best feature for me - off on a quiet lane away from the noise and hustle and bustle, yet a 2 minute (if that) walk to Opera Metro and less than 10 minute walk to Puerta Del Sol and Plaza Mayor - hub... More

Close to everything, clean, in a very safe area - wonderfully accommodating front desk staff. I would definitely stay here again - and the beds are really comfortable, too. The breakfast is the best hotel breakfast I've ever had - but pricey, so beware. I would recommend just doing breakfast on your own. Other than that, you can't beat this... More

We have some mixed experiences at this hotel. On the one hand some things were good: the staff is very friendly, the hotel is in a great neighborhood near the Opera metro station. The hotel offers free wifi in the rooms and the beds are decent for a hotel. On the other hand, many things were not as good. Short... More

Super nice reception ladies introduced many places to eat, visit, and transportations to take. Rooms are very clean and breakfast was awesome too. The best part is its location, near to almost all the places you must go. It takes 5 minutes walk from Opera subway station. My friends and I had a great stay there for a week.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2015

End of January I was in Madrid for the tourism fair; I haven't been there for 3-4 years. That was the first time I booked a 2-star hotel. I did this based on the location, price and reviews online. I was surprised how good it was. Helpful staff, clean, good size rooms, breakfast was OK. 2-star maybe but exceeded my... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
