We spent five nights at hotel Alicia. We had a giant room with a sofa and table downstairs and king bed upstairs. We also had a large terrace overlooking Plaza Santa Ana. The location was perfect for small shops and restaurants. It was not super touristy there. There was a breakfast buffet good by European standards, maybe slightly under embassy... More

A stay at Alicia is a wonderful experience; so centrally located, beautifully decorated and exquisitely maintained. The staff were, at all times, friendly and attuned to our every inquiry. We must pay a special compliment to Jose; a few personalities like his make Alicia, Madrid and Spain the places return to again and again.

Spent a couple nights at Hotel Room Mate Alicia at the beginning and end of our recent trip to Spain and enjoyed it both times. The location is hard to beat as it's in a lively neighborhood central to the Prado Museum, Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, Cathedral of the Almudena, etc. Metro stops are nearby and taxis are easy... One of the best hotels in the world and certainly the best in Madrid! The location is absolutely perfect right on the Plaza Santa Ana. Walking distance to everything Madrid has to offer. The room was perfect with a beautiful terrace and spectacular views of the Plaza Santa Ana. What really makes the hotel stand out is the people. Eva,... More

Eight years after my first visit I returned to the Room Mate Alicia : http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g187514-d607162-r7327221-Hotel_Room_Mate_Alicia-Madrid.html#REVIEWS Has it really been eight years (and countless subsequent visits to Madrid?) The hotel is situated in a great for the location, being close to the main plazas' with an abundance of bars and eateries to choose from. It's around a 10/15 min walk to... More

Stayed here one night based on TA reviews. Staff very helpful. All spoke English. 149 Euro for a decent sized one bed room with a view of the plaza. Walking distance to Puerta del Sol. Would not recommend restaurant across the street, see separate review.

Could not have asked for more from our one night stay at Room Mate Alicia during a recent stop in Madrid...except possibly another few nights. Hotel is in a wonderful location - walking distance to both the Royal Palace and Cathedral and in the opposite direction, the Prado Museum. Clean room with two single beds pushed together to make a... More

Such a lovely clean and bright hotel. I really enjoyed my stay, and the staff really go above and beyond in making sure your need are met. The lobby was kept nice cool, and a giant pitcher of fruit infused water ready for your refreshing.

I stayed in a Junior Suite which has large windows overlooking Plaza Santa Ana. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious, but aesthetically it was nothing special. The location of the hotel is very good, especially for trying local restaurants and bars. There is an ample breakfast buffet served til 12. I didn't try the sushi restaurant,... More

I booked a single room for 5 nights. This was a somewhat cramped interior room with no view (room 208) and was very hot & stuffy. The temperature was 26C - 28C, even through the night with the window wide open. Friends in a room facing the square (room 205) also complained at how hot their room was and each... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
