The hotel is very central with good travel connections. Staff were friendly. Room was clean with all the facilities that we needed but it was rather small. Noise insulation between rooms is poor but it was not a problem. Internally, the hotel lacked character. Price was good (for Madrid). Overall, it was an good experience. We would stay again.

Walking distance to Madrid's main attractions! This hostel is very close to everything; tourist attractions, stores and restaurants. Taxi stand and opera metro station nearby. The hostel has elevator, free wifi, small common sitting area like a living room with computer that you can use for free and there is soda dispenser also. Calle Arenal is a very busy street... More

We stayed in room 103 and loved it. The room was bright and clean, with a glassed in balcony giving us 3 panes of sound barrier from the pedestrian Calle de Arenal. It's a pleasant 5 minute walk to Plaza del Sol one way, or the Palace if you walk toward the Opera House. Air conditioning, TV, mini fridge, free... More

We only discovered the Oriente on our last night in Madrid. It is a very comfortable hostal with a gorgeous bathroom (en suite). Clean, clean, clean and best of all, an excellent location. This little gem is located just above the McDonalds just across the plaza from the Madrid Opera. The heavily insulated windows reduce the street noise to just... More

A beautiful and quiet hotel in the center of Madrid within a walking distance to every one of the must-see sites in the city. Located right next to the Opera metro station and the Royal Palace. Receptionists were extremely helpful and kind and did above and beyond our expectations.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
