I have stayed at Hostal Oriente several times and they come meet very high standards each time. A great price for a place to rest your head - spotlessly clean and with attention to details. Very helpful owner and team. The prices gives excellent value. Why look anywhere else?

We stayed at Hostal Oriente in November for four nights. The Hostal is in a great location right next to the opera house and about a 2 minute walk to the palace and only a 5 minute walk to plaza Mayor and other major attractions. The metro is also directly opposite the Hostal. In regards to access to other key... More

The place is central to shopping, shows, opera, Metro, eating, drinking and gigs. We were doing a bit of everything and it couldn't have been better. The staff are friendly, the place is super clean. The wifi connection is also very good.

GREAT location at Opera metro stop; CLEAN and fresh smelling; comfortable beds in a small room with noise-reducing windows. We had a very clean private bathroom. The room was warm in November and had a TV (no English channels), free wifi, and a safe. Very basic accommodation for those of us who travel to see the city we're in, not... More

I have never been happier with my hotel choice! This place is of great value for what it offers. The bedroom was perfectly clean and beautifully arranged. The private bathroom was small but very clean. I had the room facing the shaft, so it was quiet most of the time. I'm a light sleeper, but found myself sleeping very well... More

This is a small, clean and friendly hotel ideally placed adjacent to the opera and within walking distance of the grand palace. There is an excellent restaurant and a very good cafe a few yards away. It takes 20 minutes to walk to the main railway station- the taxi driver refused to take us the short distance on arrival! I... More

Visited for 3 nights with my 12 year old son in order to take in a Real Madrid match. Accommodation was great , lovely trendy rooms with nice balconies looking out on to Plaza de la Opera which is pedestrianised so no traffic noise. 5 mins walk to Gran Via , Plaza Major and Royal Palace. Loads of bars ,... More

We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of our journey and two nights at the end of the trip. Four of us in two rooms rated it the best hotel of the trip. We walked from the hotel to all the museums and enjoyed the tapas in the bars nearby.

We booked this hotel from the very good reviews that it had. And every good thing said about the hotel is true. Very well located in the heart of the city centre of Madrid in a pedestraianised road and in front of the Opera House, It is also a stone's throw from the Royal palace and other attractions of the... Very pleased with accommodation - clean and comfortable in an excellent location for the city centre. Staff friendly and helpful. Cafe underneath 'Rodilla' is good for breakfast - tapas bar opposite is expensive and has very rude waiters - avoid.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
