My first draft review of this hotel was far harsher than this but I wanted to be fair as possible so I waited until our final night to write this review. Pros for this hotel are the area in which it is located; with many good night spots and restaurants. For the most part the staff is helpful and accommodating.... More

Asked for a room in high floor and was given a dark basement 'suite' in an adjacent building that wasn't even a hotel. So much for custormer care. Luckily plenty of hotel alternatives nearby. Avoid...

This is a funky boutique hotel in central Madrid. The rooms are not large, but they have great "arty" décor. It is located in a narrow street with restaurants nearby. The staff are really friendly and helpful. It is well located being only a short walk from Grand Via and an easy walk to the Prado and other sites.

Great location for exploring old Madrid. Excellent air conditioning, very quiet with the double glazed windows closed. A small but functional room. Located in an interesting lively street. The staff were really helpful and friendly. We took advantage of the pick-up and drop off at the airport. Will recommend to friends who may come to Madrid. Breakfast very good.

We expected something very different. From the photos on internet the hotel look like a fantastic chic hotel. And in some ways it is. But when we arrived there they gave us an apartment, in another building. So not a room in the hotel. And this room was not so cleaned and curated. Not a place where to come back.

My family and I stayed here (in a termed 'presidential suite' but a basic 1 bedroom apartment) for 4 days in late June, early July. The location was great, within walking distance of many of the main plazas and sight-seeing tourist spots, with a few, good close tapas bars / restaurants. The staff were friendly and as accommodating as they... More

The hotel is in a good area, being just a 5 minute walk from Gran Via. There are plenty of trendy bars on the same street and a few mini supermarkets. When we arrived at the hotel we weren't given any information about the hotel, the room or even a local map which I found strange. We stayed in room... More

Unfortunately Hotel Abalu in Malasana is not worth of money. Location is very good, Malasana is one of the most interesting areas in Madrid. Staff was nice and helpful but after that many buts...Abalu is not four star hotel, I would say something between two and three.

Great Location If you want to experience the young, funky, vibrant Madrid, then this is right in the heart of where you should be. The bars on this street are crammed full at night. The many local cafe's and boutiques are full of quirky personality during the day. All this just on the doorstep of the hotel. Designer Style Nothing... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
