Unfortunately Hotel Abalu in Malasana is not worth of money. Location is very good, Malasana is one of the most interesting areas in Madrid. Staff was nice and helpful but after that many buts...Abalu is not four star hotel, I would say something between two and three.

Great Location If you want to experience the young, funky, vibrant Madrid, then this is right in the heart of where you should be. The bars on this street are crammed full at night. The many local cafe's and boutiques are full of quirky personality during the day. All this just on the doorstep of the hotel. Designer Style Nothing... More

Hotel was nice and clean, with helpful hotel staff. Try to get a room in the main hotel though. We were placed in the "residential" part and so we had to be very very quiet because the residents were complaining about the noise. (even though we were just being normal - tv, talking, laughing, etc)

Dear Elli, Thank you very much for your review and for your compliments about the hotel and our staff. We are really sorry you had inconveniences with the residents. There is nothing we can do about it. Hope to have you again soon with us in our hotel rooms. Kind regards from the entire Abalu Team. More

It wants to be a design hotel but no design and quality: tiny chambers, we enter into the room by the bathroom, a tiny glass cabin toilet that does not close properly and without paper dispenser, sliding doors séparating the bathroom (thank you for privacy!) of the room that does not slide and are not airtight, a shower full of... The location of the hotel was excellent. However, our room was dark and only had a bath with handheld shower head, meaning water went everywhere. The hotel supplied no toiletries which I thought was poor for the price paid.

It was supposed to be a romantic getaway booked by my boyfriend but this hotel just ruined us the entire experience. I'm quite used to 4 stars or boutique hotels and the ABALU looked very good on the website but little I knew that instead was a clear example of how you should never design a boutique hotel. Nowadays a... More

This hotel is just a pity full attempt to make a cool hotel without having a clue about what guests really needs during a stay in a hotel. This place really looks amazing from the website but the only thing that is truly amazing is how incompetent has been whoever designed this hotel and the staff who is running it.... More

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst traveling across Spain. The staff were very welcoming. we arrived 1 hour earlier so (as expected) we couldn't be given a room but they kept our bags whilst we went exploring. The location is really good as its only 2 minutes away from the subway station and there are loads of restaurants and... More

Although we were satisfied with our stay, do read the negative comments on here before you book. Having booked 6 months prior to our stay I was hoping we would at least get a room with street view but instead we had very, very dark room and the view of the window was so bad it was better to keep... We were ungraded to this hotel as the one initially booked was under renovation. Every opportunity was taken to secure our happiness, and the staff seemed obliging and willing to ensure we were well catered for. They were certainly the most redeeming feature of this hotel. The room was a tad excessive, plush and pink. We counted seven mirrors and... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
