Location is very good , staff is very helpfull and friendly. I also like the style of the furnitures. Some people wrote that they are old. But for us it looks very vintage. However, there is no staff at the reception after 11pm and you have to enter with the doorman of the apartmant after that hour. The bad thing about... More

We stayed here for 2 days and I was hesitant staying in a hostal due to previous bad experiences however after checking in I was more than happy. Stayed in a family room with newly renovated bathroom, rooms cleaned daily and felt safe knowing noone can get in early in the morning without getting past the concierge. Close to everything... Very well located hostel, excellent cost benefit. Home and personal care. Lady Camelia treated us like son! I really recommend it. Is very good to good to different places in Madrid. The best thing is very close to the Madrid City tour Hop on Hop off point.

So glad we booked here. The location is ideal. Rooms are clean and we felt secure. The service is exceptional as any question we had was thoughtfully answered. Camelia offered wonderful suggestions to enhance our stay in Madrid. Unfortuantely we do not speak Spanish but that was of no concern here. So thankful to be told of the easy affordable... More

I booked because of the location - central for all of the attractions of Madrid and the price. I will come again for the clean, bright rooms, great service and sense of security. The welcome was good and I got a sense of personal service from Camelia and Fernando. My new address in Madrid.

For its location and for its quality, Hostal La Plata is an ideal place to stay in the heart of Madrid. In Gran Via 15, a short walk from the station "Gran Vía" metro (line 5) and Puerta del Sol, with nearby bus stops and numerous shops, has to reach the main tourist attractions of the Spanish capital. This, coupled... More

Camelia and her daughter were very friendly, caring and helpful. The location of the hostal is on Gran Via and close to subway station Gran Via, may be one or to minutes on foot. I offer anyone to ask Camelia or her daughter where to go and eat. The owner is also helpful. On the subway, I was robbed. He... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
