We stayed here recently with our little 9 month old. Despite organizing in advance we had received a room with 2 single beds, no crib , no kettle and a shower, with a baby this made matters difficult. There was a very pungent drain smell from the bathroom too which over powered the room. Saying that the location couldn't be... More

I had to fly to Madrid for work for a few nights. The hotel seemed very central and easy to get to. But they would turn off the heater automatically so I froze overnight. Every 2 min it would turn off on it's own. No one helped me. They kept saying it was fixed but wasn't. And now they are... More

Where to begin! The location, the service and the overall experience was great! We were apprehensive and had our standards low as we had booked a "small" room but the room was not small it was perfect for the two of us. Having been travelling for over 2 months now we have has our stay in many hotels and it... More

We were delighted with this hotel, the room was excellent, spacious and tastefully decorated (502) and the location was brilliant too. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, would definitely recommend.

Very convenient location - close to Plaza Mayor y Mercado de San Miguel - was it's main advantage. Hotel room was extremely small, almost claustrophobic with a little window (small patio view), which made it very dark and sad even in a sunny day. The room had a very thin walls, so we could perfectly hear our neighbours, people coming... More

The location was ideal as the metro station and plenty of attractions like La Gran Via were nearby. The front desk staff was sensational. They were extremely helpful. The room was ordinary and provided us with a view of a back alley. The elevator didn't always work in a timely manner. If I were to return to Madrid, I would... More

We originally booked in to the Opera Hotel only to find out when we got there that they were moving us to this hotel as they had overbooked. The rooms we stayed in were small and nothing eloborate and I would not classify this as a boutique hotel. The rooms were missing simple things like a shelf in the shower... More

This hotel is super and full of character. It is situated just by the Opera and Metro station so is really easy to reach either from the airport or Atocha. Our room in this old building was amply roomy enough with a little balcony overlooking the street. The bathroom was of a high modern standard. The only down point was... More

My partner and I have just returned from a five day break in madrid. Hotel itself is ideally located, the room was nice and we have to say the staff are wonderful. Our one problem was that the hotel states it's wheelchair accessible but it has five steps to reception from the street. When we arrived I nearly cried!! Then... More

Arriving at 11am from Montreal, our room wasn't ready (which is normal...) but we were told that the room would be ready by noon. They took our luggage in custody, and since we were hungry, recommended the nearby Cafe de Opera, which was good value for the price. The main advantage of La Meninas is that it is very central,... Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
