We would highly recommend the Meninas Hotel for your stay in Spain. My wife, unfortunately shortly after arriving at the hotel, became sick. The staff was so very helpful in helping us locate a cab and direct us to the hospital. Once we returned they were very concerned about her health. The staff was also very helpful with suggestions on... More

This a quiet, inexpensive, close by historic atractions and good hotel. Located across the Plaza Isabel la Catolica, where the Teatro Real is located and Opera Metro stop. Staff is great and attentive. Rooms are large and bathroom is larger tan expected. You are walking distance from plaza mayor, puerta del sol...and many more. I will for sure stay again... More

We spent one night at this historic hotel. The room was a little tight. Front desk was helpful and most accommodating. Breakfast was excellent.. Close to the Royal Palace and Mercado, lots of tapa style restaurants and shopping.

Just finished my second stay at this hotel and was as impressed this time as last time. They remembered my previous visit and went out of their way to be welcoming - staff speak English if your Spanish isn't quite fluent. Had a bigger room this time with nice size bathroom, balcony on to the street and air con. It's... More

The hotel is small but in an excellent location just off Opera square minutes walking from the Metro. Well located for all the major sites. The room was small and we didn't have a bath but it was all we needed as we were out all day. There is a supermarket opposite and bars at the top of the road.... More

Dear guest, First of all, thank you for your comment regarding your stay with us, here at the Hotel Meninas. This protected 19th century building was renovated to preserve its original structure and design, and classic details like the vaulted dining room, located in the old wine cellar, where the clients have the buffet breakfast, with spanish omelette included. I stayed 2 nights with my parents in Sept 2014 in the 104 room, was really spacious, clean and comfortable. Only a few steps from metro Opera where you can walk easily to the center of Madrid, maybe just 20 minutes to Puerta de Sol. I really recommend you stay here, we keep an eye always in the cleanliness and... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
