This hotel was a real surprise, upon seeing the entrance in a building shared by hostels i was very nervous going upstairs, however once you enter reception area you realize its different, the hotel is smack in the middle of Gran via and close to the metro and most of the touristy areas, the room was great, very spacious with... My husband choose the hotel and I absolutely fell in-love with it just as I stepped in. Very close to theatres, shopping centre and just at the corner of the Gran Via. My husband picked a corner room and on the ninth flr there is a terrace where you have a lovely view of the city. The vintage setting is... More

Praktik Metropol is located close to a Metro station on Gran Via and is within walking distance to many sites. I rode the transit from the airport to the nearby station for about six Euro, walked a block, and easily found the hotel. I spent one night in the fully-booked hotel. The lobby is relaxed and modern. My room was... More

We had an awesome stay in one of the Gran Via Corner rooms. The view is amazing, the design of the room so lovely. If Madrid wouldnt be such an interersting city with many things to explore we would have stayed in the hotel the whole day!

First time in Madrid and we decided to book a corner room based on reviews. We were placed on 2nd floor directly over a McDonald's. Room is a decent size for a big city with a nice large bed. Room has a nice wrap around balcony but is not simple to get onto the way furniture is arranged. Corner room's... More

Having stayed at this hotel previously, when looking for a place to stay for my sisters hen do this hotel was our first choice. Not only is it great value for money but the location is perfect, very central and close to all the places we planned to visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful, as a surprise for... More

Courteous, helpful reception staff, central location, comfortable beds, delightful roof terrace made our trip most enjoyable. Excellent shower too. Only one lift working, and the bath towels could have been larger.

I stayed for 4 nights the first time and was impressed from the outset. Firstly it was right near the Gran Via metro so extremely easy to find. The lift was old and slow but added to the charm. Reception was very friendly and my room overlooking the street was spacious, clean and very light and comfortable. You can walk... More

This hotel is on the corner of Gran Via and a pedestrian street, and over a (beautiful) McDonalds. The location could not be more central - we walked everywhere even though the Gran Via metro station was steps away. The windows are quadruple-paned, so even on Saturday night the noise from the street was no problem (and I'm a light... More

I'm sure someone/many others has/have already said this about Praktik Metropol; the location is fantastic. In a city where almost all of the major tourist sites are walkable from each other, being based centrally from them is a very good idea. Praktik Metropol easily meets this requirement. Getting there from Madrid Atocha Renfe train station after a Renfe ride from... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
