Love this hotel. Returned having stayed here once before a few years ago. Great central location on Gran Via close to shops, bars, restaurants and the main tourist attractions. Decor is quirky and model, but set inside a beautiful old building. Comfortable bed, great shower, balcony and free WiFi were plus points. Very few English TV channels and noise of... More

This grand old hotel has been completely modernised. The room was spacious, modern clean and comfortable. Situated in a very central location for seeing the sights of Madrid. Staff were always cheerful and helpful. They even went out of their way when I accidentally left my wallet in the back of a taxi. Breakfast was a good selection of delicious... More

I've recently spent 4 nights at Hotel De Las Letras during the business conference and enjoyed it very much. The location is very central, close to all major historical sights, restaurants, bars, shops. It's a nice historical building, but very well equipped and up-to-date inside. The room was clean, quiet, well decorated, comfy bed, nice bathroom where everything worked well.... More

We spent 4 nights at Hotel De Las Letras (before it was apparently bought by Iberostar) and this hotel is my favorite of all time! It might not be the most luxurious, but thats not what this place is about. We wanted a hotel that had the "feel" of being in Madrid, and this hotel delivers! The staff is outstanding... More

Besides being a wonderful Hotel with an excellent and friendly service. This is a wonderful space, design that inspires. Every detail well thought out and executed. I loved it ! Can't wait to go back. Location can't be beat, from the airport take the bus that drops you off at the Cibeles fountain, walk 3 blocks and you are there.... More

Chose this hotel for location and were not disappointed. Clean, chick, sunny, modern rooms. Some have terrace - choose wisely. Many nice restaurants in the area. Everything is walking distance. Great place!

I have stayed 6 nights at this hotel. Very modern and with modern design. My room was 216 on the 2nd floor and facing the road. Restaurants of tapas and udon noodle bar are not far from the hotel. Groceries shop there are two around the corner. Selection of breakfast is limited but ok for those who are not big... More

I stayed at this hotel the weekend just gone, on arrival I was very impressed by the look of the hotel from the outside, however I did feel that the check in area looked very "plastic" looking and did not fit in at all with the older style of building. The check in was fairly slow, although receptionist was very... More

The hotel is on the Gran Via which is perfect for all the sights of Madrid (the sightseeing bus stop is across the road). The hotel is beautiful and the room we had was big, high ceilings, huge bed and gorgeous bathroom. The bar is smart but comfortable with lovely white comfortable sofas. All of the staff were friendly and... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
