The hotel is very central, right next to the famous Gran Via, where one can find plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The rooms are modest, but clean. Breakfast was good. The wireless leaves a lot to be desired. We were on the 4th floor and there was almost no reception. Anyways, I strongly recommend to everyone who looks for... More

This was an ideal base for exploring Madrid. The rooms were fine - clean and spacious enough; the buffet breakfast was good; and the hotel was easy to find, near Callao and Gran Via metro stations. All the major sites were within walking distance, with a short metro ride often an alternative, and the staff were very knowledgeable about local... More

We stayed at this hotel for one night in the way home. The rooms are very clean and quiet, the breakfast was good. The hotel is near to Gran via where you will find many magazines for shopping and is at 5min away from a subway station.

Good hotel in a nice central location close to the Gran Via and metro. They let us check in at 8:00 am after an overnight train trip which was great. The included breakfast was good, the room clean, comfortable and average size for a European hotel. Unfortunately, the room was too warm and the air-con not working (switched off for winter?).... I found very good quality/price ratio. Close to Gran Via but in a small street..thus not so loudy.. you can easily access the night life and other attractions. Metro (Callao) stop very close to the hotel. Hotel staff very helpful for information about restaurants or night life.

I'm now in the hotel until tomorrow for two nights. Its location is perfect, near sol(city center) but quiet. The hotel wifi is not that good but tolerable. As a whole it worths for 170 euros. Breakfast had enough variety. The receptionists are not so welcoming but responsive to your requests!

This is my 2nd time to live but I have worse experience due to bad WiFi connection. We have reported to the staff, but they were not able to handle this kind of technical problem. Not just us but other customers also complained the WiFi. The staff just only showed their phone to prove no problem but they didn't know... More

This hotel is so close to all the major plazas and still quite quiet. Rooms were good, the attached pub was very comfortable and the dining room had great breakfasts and awesome coffee. Front desk staff were able to handle all questions and help us out. Great value.

We just recently returned from our trip to Spain, and stayed 3 nights at the Hotel II Castillas. I had requested a quiet room, and we certainly received one. Our first room was very small, including the bed. For the money and given that it was so quiet, we could have lived with that, but we asked if a larger... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
