Good value for location right in the center, close to everything. Safe area. Stairs might be difficult for some people but we didn't find this a problem. Reception was terrible, we waited for ages to be served to check in and when we went to checkout the other reception person said we hadn't paid so there was another longer wait.... More

The Hostal Plaza d'Ort is very nice, cosy and clean. The price is correct and the staff is very welcoming . They are available by day or night to give you informations or if you need something to drink or to eat. They showed us the good spots to visit, they booked for us to a flamenco show in a nice... The hostal is situated very very central - most sightseeing views and railwaystation atocha can be reached by walking. The staff is very kindly and it´s a familiar atmosphere. The single room was very small but clean. It was very clairaudient.

The façade and stairs could make you think it is not worth spending even one single night here, but the room was certainly clean and comfortable. The building (an old one) has no lift and the reception is at the second floor, remember this if you carry a heavy baggage!!

Love this hostel in Madrid! The staff were very helpful. They seemed to be happy to help us each time we had a question. The best thing about this hostel is the location. It was a very convenient start and stop to a day of wondering around trying to catch all the sites! The rooms were small but it was... More

Spent 5 nights in this budget hostal, very friendly reception. Rooms clean and bed comfortable. Some creaking doors but very quiet generally. Very central for Museums and streetlife. Close to metro but city is compact enough to walk nearly everywhere Will stay again when in Madrid Philip

The title resumes the main strenghts of this hostel. Just 5 minutes away from Puerta del Sol, it is located in a nice square rich in shops and restaurants. The quality is excellent in comparison to the price; rooms are cleaned every day and have got TV and air-conditioning. Bathrooms already have got soap, towels and hair-drier. Rooms on the... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
