Solo traveller, Booked room with bathroom. Great place, perfect location for the galleries, palace and main square. Friendly. Clean and tidy. No traffic noise as room not facing street (can cope with no street view if get a decent night's sleep!). Loved the décor. Room large enough. Good places for breakfast up and down the street and bar down the... More

Hostal Fonda Horizonte, like most hostals in Spain, is a small hotel as opposed to a hostel. In a historic building very close to Plaza de Santa Ana in a super location for site seeing. We were going to be in Madrid for just a short time as the beginning of a month long trip to Spain. We really didn't... More

One of myriad Madrid guest house hostels, but with an excellent location, right in the middle of the busy and charming district around Plaza Santa Ana, a stone´s throw from Puerta del Sol/Plaza Mayor (Madrid´s "km 0") and handy for partying, eating and drinking in La Latina, and comfortably outside the less desirable residential area of Lavapies. Good connections to... More

We booked a room last minute. but the choice was excellent. The hotel has an amazing, antique interior, which takes you to the beginning of the 20th century, i's high ceiling, authentic antique decorations, amazing floors and furniture from the epoque. The hotel is very clean, in excellent location and the owner is one of the loveliest persons I had... More

A last minute booking but was satisfied with the value. A decent location once we found our way around. The room was comfortable and the hostal itself had a lot of character. Communication was a bit difficult but the owner was extremely nice. He suggested a great restaurant for a first night of vacation. A good place if you are... More

Firstly let me say that a few of my issues are not directly the fault of the hostel, but as it is in a residential block it can be very loud at night. I have literally just left the hostel after being kept awake until 5am by the screaming of someone in the block. This happened 2 nights running.my main... More

Great location. Very Clean. Good price when not considering the poor acoustic. Will not return to stay despite all the good sides of it. I got a room away from the street. There is no issues with noise from the traffic but instead heard every movements on the floor - there are people walking and talking around the clock. Disincline... More

This hostel is located outside the downtown in La Latina district. Room costs about 40euros. It is real hostel for travellers, backpackers etc. Here you can opportunity to meet people from around the world. Bathrooms are clean and modern so no risk. Close to the hostel is metro station Anton Martin.

This was the first place we stayed after flying from Australia. It was clean and comfortable, easy to come and go as we pleased. There was just one shared bathroom, but it wasn't too busy so we didn't have any problems with that. We didn't find it too noisy, but that might be due to the season (we were there... More

I have stayed here twice. Both times I had the cheapest single room at the front of the building, facing the street. The manager is a nice guy, but he is rarely around. On my second stay nobody was there when I arrived, and I had to wait around a while. Once you get settled it's a great place though.... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
