We stayed at Chelo this June and we were really pleased. The staff is the best! They really take care of your stay, so that you can enjoy your time in the city and even provide you with all information you need in case you want to visit other nearby places. Our room was also great, we had a nice... More

We spent 4 nights in the hostel and although we got a bit confused to find it on our arrival (the sign is not easily visible; check the door number specifically), it was definitely worth the stay as it is very central and within walking distance of the main sightings. The balcony doors are double-glazed so the outside noise can... More

The hostal is perfectly located in the very centre of Madrid, everything is near. It is very clean, the service is excellent and the owners make you feel at home. I recommend this hostal for both short and long trips. I´ve stayed at lots of hostels in Europe and this one is the best one of all. The ratio cost/benefit... More

excellent location: there is no need to take metro and bus. The managers are hospitable and always available. The room very small but comfortable and clean enough. Only one flaw: the bad smell of the sewers. It is necessary to ventilate the room and, during the night, keep the bathroom door closed for not waking up with nausea. Unfortunately, it... More

Hostal located in the very center of Madrid. Great location! Excellent value for money. Clear. Very nice owner, but if you do not speak Spanish, you can have a little problem :) The rooms with private bathroom, which was very convenient.

We always stay in Hostal Chelo when we visit Madrid. Situated between Grand Via and Chueca, This Hostal offers good clean accommodation at a reasonable price. Rooms have a small bathroom, TV with local channels and heating. The owners are very friendly, Their son speaks very good English. There is a lift to the Hostal. There are plenty of cafes... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighborhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighborhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
