Keep in mind this is a hostal, not a hotel. With that said, it is a great place. Clean, good with fi, great location and wonderful attention. Clean, modern bathrooms. No breakfast but close to numerous restaurants as well as museums and the Atocha train station. Also close to the metro station. Overall, a great clean place to spend your... More

I went to Madrid some days ago and stayed at this nice, small hotel down town which we chose for its convenient location and its affordable rates as well as the nice decoration as seen in the pictures on the different sites I visited before booking. It turned out to be as good as it seemed at the pictures and... More

Clean, cheerful, cheap and safe. Highly recommended. Do book directly with the hotel to help them avoid falling to the domination of big booking websites. I stayed there for one night and the staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms are newly renovated. Toiletries were provided.

We have stayed here a number of times and keep coming back. The recent refurbishment of rooms with sound deadening windows has significantly reduced the inevitable city noise and the quiet within is amazing for such a great central location. As always the team is fabulous and could not be more helpful on each occasion - especially when making sense... More

Good: The staffs are friendly, the rooms are clean with daily housekeeping service provided. Bathroom is clean with towels, shower gel, shampoo provided. Bad: It's a reasonable distance from the Atocha train station. But if you are carrying a heavy luggage, it maybe tough to walk to and from the train station as there is a slightly uphill road to... We stayed for 3 nights in October. Arrived with some specific needs: had to vote electronically in an election in Australia, and had to track down a lost phone charger from a Barcelona hotel. Josephina and Francesca on reception could not have been more helpful to two non Spanish speakers and offered assistance in both matters. This hotel offered plenty... More

Dear Heather R, We are really happy to hear we helped you to arrange your voting in Australia. Besides, you are right, it is very easy to walk to the main sightseeings, we are located at the confluence of the main museums in town, just a short walk, but also all our neighbourhood is a beautifull one full of bars,... This hostal has a fabulous location near Atocha railway station. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the reception staff very welcoming and helpful with all sorts of advice and info about Madrid. The only niggle i have is about the stipulation about not doing any hand washing of laundry in the room. If you visit a laundromat you might... More

I stayed here with my 2 teen daughters. The place is basic but super clean, good location and the staff is the best. I am a Spanish speaker but I heard them speak very good English. You can't go wrong here. Bus stop to the airport if a few blocks away.

All the good things you;ve read about this hostal are true. The staff were extremely helpful, the rooms are basic but freah and clean and well insulated form the outside noise. Insulation from noise of the next rooms is not so great but it wasn't really an issue. Importantly it's only a short walk from the main station ( Atocha)... More

Staying in Lavapies

Neighborhood Profile
Lavapies
Walking into this neighborhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighborhood.
