I stayed here by myself after I decided to spend a couple more nights in Madrid & the original place I was staying could not accommodate. It was an interesting set up, beautiful "home" but there was no shared kitchen as I was used to in other hostels I stayed (or at least I didn't get the impression that it... More

Based on the mostly good reviews of the hostel I tried to reserve a room for my trip with my girlfriend in Madrid for July. I made a mistake during the reservation process and I booked the room for the date when I made the reservation and for the next day (June). I have immediately contacted the hotel (within 5... More

The value is good and location is great. Place is very clean and staff is friendly. Only down side is the thin walls. if you're trying you sleep and some one comes back late, you'll hear them walk and talk. The weather was good when I was there so I didn't need ac or heat.

I chose it because of the good reviews that it had gotten. Usually the score is a decent indicator, but not in this case. The hostel is old and has a creepy feel to it somehow. At night the corridors are so dark that I even walked into a wall, sober! Fumbling in the dark to find the lock on... More

Just a quick update to my previous reviews, based on two more stays. The management now recognizes me which makes the stay more pleasant in some ways. I've gotten nicer rooms (perhaps not coincidental) including singles with windows and flat screen TVs at the basic single/shared bath rate. However, my last stay was in early July and that stay proved... More

I stayed here 4 nights in the beginning of my Spain trip. The price for a single with shared bath was reasonable (less than 30 Euros). The room had a single bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and a small TV. I never used the TV because the internet that is available in the public spaces reached my room, and I... More

Thank you Mirentxu and especially the helpful and friendly staff. We had a very pleasant stay with my boyfriend in a single 2-beds room which was daily cleaned, beds made and the hostel has a great city center location (just 5 minutes walk to the metro Sol, yellow line number 3). If you are not a deep sleeper though, kindly... More

I stayed in a single budget room for 7 nights. For such a low price, I had low expectations. But the room was clean, comfortable and had plenty of room. Large wardrobe closet, dresser, comfortable twin bed, sink, flat screen tv & heater. Towel & toiletries were provided. My room was directly behind the front desk- so I could sometimes... More

Was back during a long weekend. Booked directly on their website, so got the rock-bottom price of 20-25 euros/night during my stay. However, that also meant I got the lowest quality room. Tiny, single bed without much support, no washbasin, no mirror, no TV, no window (there was a opening of some kind partly covered up that opened into the... More

The Mirentxu was a bit like a funeral home; the lights were dim and the place was creepy. This is a hostal not an hotel, but there are good bright happy hostals to be found. Their website pictures are beautiful, stylish, modern. Based on my experience, the truth is the complete opposite. What photoshop and airbrushing can do is just... More

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighborhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
