The hostel is very basic yet very clean and in a very good location, right on gran via with all it's action. Bathroom is small but has shampoo and body soap. The water pressure is affected by your neighbors.. If on the next room somebody is taking a shower you will loose pressure and hot water will change.. Another neighbors'... More

This hostel has an excellent location to pretty much everything you can want to do in the center of Madrid. It's either a walking distance or there are about 3 train stations within a short walk away. I had a single room with private shower and it was more a hotel than hostel. The staff were very friendly and I... More

we were apprehensive at first about "Hostal" Santillan...what the heck is a HOSTAL??? but what we got was a good experience and a great compliment to our Madrid trip.... here are the highlights of our stay: - as mentioned, GREAT LOCATION....Gran Via is THE main road in central Madrid. We never had difficulty hailing a cab, feeling safe walking, commuting... More

After two-nights, we got the impression that the Hostal Santillan is a professionally-run and well-managed property. The hostal occupies the upper-floors of a building on the Gran Via. The original building from the 30's was probably designed for the rich and glamorous, and you can still see the grandeur in the original fittings in the lobby, but post-renovation, the rooms... The hotel is located in a traditional old building, on Gran Via. Very central, a 15 minute walk from Sol and lots of bars, shops and restaurants around. Rooms are a good size and clean. Shower was very slippy!

The hotel has an excellent location since it is located at the Gran Via.The hotel is surrounded with restaurants, nightlife and walking distance to landmarks and shopping mall in Gran Via. The hotel has an affordable price considering its location, we were booked at the 7th floor .

Location is perfect. Top sights are walking distance or short bus ride away. Great and cheap restaurant Sirena Verde a few doors away. Very friendly and helpful guys at the front desk. They even stored our luggage for a few days when we flew to Ibiza and back. Beautiful building, clean and comfortable rooms.

Very good value for money. Really clean and looks recently renoveted. Our room was facing Gran Via on 5th floor, but we weren't bothered by street noise. Plenty of restaurant nearby, and very close to 3 metro stops.

Very reasonable hostel right on Gran Via! The room was of a good size although the bathroom was a bit small but what's important is that both were very, very clean! Great restaurants all around the area, never have to go far for a good meal. Location is central so we basically walked to most of Madrid's attractions then took... More

I receive hospitality and found good attitude towards tourists. Clean rooms and confortable bed. From this place you can walk through La Gran Via or take the next Metro Station. If you have going to have a short stay in Madrid and then move to other cities this place is a good choice.

Staying in Malasana

Neighborhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighborhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
