Price and location are the best characteristics of this 2-star hotel, very near of Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and historic center of Madrid. My room was comfortable and had good light and wonderful seeings. There is no extra elements such as shampoo or shower gel. In a new trip to Madrid I'm very sure of repeat this hotel. Excellent... This used to be a neat place to stay, built in an 18th century monestary was a clean and fun place. Hotel is still clean, they've reopened their restaurant for breakfast. The room I stayed in was remodeled but faced the main street and had paper thin walls and the street traffic was oppressive. The small plaza Santa Cruz in... More

A small hotel with a variety of rooms from family rooms to very small singles. Its location is superb, a short walk form everything worth seeing in Madrid. Excellent with kids. Ok breakfast if you do not prefer to eat at a street cafe. WiFi was excellent throughout the stay.

I only booked one night here to get set for the return home. Exhausted from a long stay in various parts of the country, all I wanted was a comfortable place to snuggle up with my ipad and catch up on some news and TV. Sadly, there's no wi-fi in the whole hotel - although they advertise otherwise. I should... More

We went to meet a group of 6 friends who were staying here. The gal at the front desk - Julia - did an superb job of answering all of our questions regarding good places to eat nearby. She directed us to a great place around the corner with a $10 euro- very complete - menu. Julia has a great... More

By far, this hotel's greatest asset is its location. Plaza Mayor is within a one minute walk, and the Sol Metro stop and shopping area is roughly 5 minutes walk distance. Also close by are a number of restaurants and bars. I stayed here for four nights. Where this hotel succeeds in location and accessibility, its lacking in several other... More

Stayed here for three nights. Was very happy. Was alone. Really liked the layout of the room. I was on the fifth floor. Window overlooking the plaza below. My last night there processions were passing down below (semana santa). Wifi worked very well in my room. Although at first I couldn't connect for some reason. But after half hour or... More

A lovely hotel with easy walking access to all major sightseeing places. Rooms pleasant, ask for a upper floor room. Difficult to find if driving, parking outside hotel is a nightmare. Their garage is a short walk away but a much longer drive and difficult to find, they do not have a map! We breakfasted in local bars, much better... More

The hotel was Spartan at best. Not even a tissue. Still we stayed 2 nights at the start of our trip and one at the end. They charged our card before we got there so we had no choice. The first two nights were tolerable but the last night was awful. The room was noisy and had no bath and... More

The front door of this hotel leads straight into the Plaza Mayor and is only less than 5 minutes walk from Sol Metro station. From here you can walk to most major attractions including the Prado in 10 minutes, the Palace Real on 5 and more restaurants than you can imagine. The rooms were clean but small and had no... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
