This cozy, warm and friendly hostel is a block away from Plaza Mayor, a few blocks away from Puerta del Sol and just in front of Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, a beautiful building you will love. It is surrounded by interesting little stores with cloths, crafts, wine, and whatever you could need during your vacations. There are several bars or... More

If you want to stay close to the center of Madrid and all of the major sites/attractions, this is the best location and hotel for the money. The hotel looks questionable from the outside but once you are in, the rooms are nice, modern and clean, the windows are double-pane (which really helps since the hotel faces a busy square)... More

A great little hostel in a fantastic location between Sol and the Plaza Mayor. We stayed in two different rooms at the beginning and end of our trip. The first room was at the back and although small was comfortable with a good shower. The second room was on the other side of the hotel and was quite noisy throughout... More

Location is very central and price is not high. The rooms are clean but maybe a little run-down. The bathrooms are comfortable. Although the rooms are small there is a lot of storage space which is convenient. There is a balcony in most rooms - which is very nice for smokers/others. The staff is very nice and attentive but they... More

The location is impressive, but that said, it came with a lot of noise. Our room faced the back, and due to the warm weather and no A/C, we opened the window to cool down the room. We spent 58 Euro a night. For a few euro's more you could have a quieter nicer place.

The hostel is located in a charming "plaza" on the 3rd floor. Elevator works perfectly, big enough for me and my bags. Less than a minute distance from Plaza Mayor and close to a lot of other sightseeing places. Great value, would recommend to friends and family. Private room is small but very comfy, with a double bed and private... More

I booked a single room with private bathroom for 2 nights in February for 30 euros per night. Situated just next to Plaza Mayor and only few minutes from the Sol metro station, your location cannot get much better. Arriving to Hostal Cruz Sol too early to check-in (11:15 am), I was welcome by an older lady who did not... More

Hostal Cruz Sol gave us exactly what we were expecting. As everyone here has said, the location is phenomenal - it is right next to the Plaza Mayor and very near the Mercado de San Miguel, and many attractions and wonderful restaurants are within walking distance. You'll want to walk anyway, the old sections of Madrid are enchanting, with new... More

If a clean comfortable place to stay in a great location but no extras is what you need I would recommend the Hostal Cruz Sol. The hostel was located at the plaza Santa Cruz (.Just next to the plaza Mayor) and is located on 3rd floor of the building. The room was very small but very clean. Also the bathroom... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
