The best location possible. Right in the heart of the city in Plaza De Sol, it is next to a metro stop, with a huge selection of restaurants and shops in the surrounding streets. It's equidistant from the Royal Palace and Cathedral and the Thyseen and Prado museums. I came for Madrid Pride (orgullo), so the proximity to the gay... More

To start with the staff (possibly owners) were so accommodating and welcoming. Everything looked really nice even though we were not expecting a lot because of the price! We had a lovely air conditioned room with two toilet/showers across the hall. And also the wifi is excellent and free (an essential nowadays). It is perfectly located in the center and... More

I have travel to Madrid every year for the last 4 years and each time i have opted to stay her. I always travel up with a group of girls and i have to say, i have never felt safer than i have here! The owners of the hostel and his family are some of the nicest, friendliest most helpful... More

I stayed here and I had my own double room, my own bathroom with a shared but very big balcony. Great location, and very reasonable with great hosts and - simple breakfast too. The location is simple, out the door and you are in the main square, very Central and everything is at your doorstep. I did stay at a... More

This hostal located just 2steps away from the Sol square, so convenient to do everything, wonderful location. The facility and equipment is so nice. N what i like the most is its wonderful atmosphere and decroation, feeling exactly like a home. Besides, its breakfast is also a good idea. Most important of all, i really satisfied with their passion service.... More

Booking and pre-payment via internet was easy. It's easy to find if you exit correctly at Vodacom SOL. If not, ask one of the many police who are usually ready to help. The location has to be the overriding factor for booking this hostel. We needed something close to the action for New Year's Eve and there is nothing that... More

My sister and I booked this hotel for 9 nights during the summer. We payed extra for a private bathroom (not much extra per night and completely worth it in my opinion). The room is about the size of a matchbox with a tv smaller than my computer screen and a bed as hard as the floor, but we didn't... More

We booked this hotel only 1 hour before arriving and got a good price for a 3 night stay. The hotel was quite difficult to find but thanks to a couple of police officers we found it. We had a room with a small Juliet balcony which provided a great view. The two single beds were quite loud and not... More

I stayed for eight nights. They charge payment upon arrival, and there are no refunds. The noise from the other rooms and the corridor was so loud at all hours of the night, I couldn't get any sleep. When I complained to the manager about the noise, I was told that the other guests had paid their money for their... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
