The location is excellent, the rooms are very well done, adequate space in the Superior Room even with a baby, probably the best wifi I've ever had in any hotel and last but definitely not the least, a very helpful team. Having said that, given that the high expectations the hotel sets at the start, I found the breakfast service... More

We stayed 10 nights at this hotel and absolutely loved the location and the hotel. It is situated in the middle of the city so we were able to walk to all of the sights we wanted to see each day. It is on a side street so not as busy as some of the other hotels. Our room faced... More

My son and I stayed there for four nights. We couldn't have been more pleased. The location was excellent (for a tourist), the hotel pleasant and very elegant and the staff most friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Madrid.

Catalonia Puerta del Sol is in a great location. The hotel rooms are slightly run down, but very clean and most important the location makes up for it! The courtyard is beautiful and the staff is a great help. No need to purchase the breakfast, just head across the street to the café and the supermarket is more then sufficient... More

My wife and I always stay in a spectacularly good value hostal in the heart of old Madrid but on our latest visit it was booked for our first three nights. Catalonia Puerta del Sol was the best option for us as an alternative. It's within easy walking distance from the Anton Martin and Tirso de Molina underground stations. The... More

They are priced a little higher than the other 4 star hotels- but you simply walk out of the hotel toward every major attraction. It is a building house turned into a well kept hotel, with modern elevators and not too many guests. The breakfast- a good selection, in a family atmosphere. What a way to start the day

Stayed for two nights and loved it. Great location - very central but not in the heart of the busy tourist centre (which is a good thing!). We had a courtyard room and kept the window open all night with hardly any noise. Rooms are lovely, very clean and comfortable. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.La Rollerie across... I booked a room in this hotel based on others very good feedback but my experience was very bad. When we first entered the room, it had really bad smell (sewage smell). It was really bad that we couldn't stay in it. I have called the reception to inform them, who told us they didn't have another available triple room.... More

Picked this hotel because of all the other trip advisor reviews and it did not disappoint. Staff was friendly and attentive and very helpful with suggestions. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel because it was too expensive. Would suggest la rollerie across the street. For 10.50 for 2, you get coffee, orange juice, 4 rolls (the croissants are... More

The hotel grounds is absolutely stunning. Cast-iron gates, Parque flooring and beautiful wooden staircases. We didn't eat in the restaurant so cannot feedback on the food. We stayed in a junior suite on the third floor. There was a small lounge with a sofa and TV, a large bathroom with a shower, and a very large bedroom with a queen... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
