Stayed at this hotel for three nights (Fri to Mon) last June. It's three blocks behind the Thyssen museum, about six blocks away from Puerta del Sol, and three blocks away from the Sevilla station of the 2 line. It occupies the first and two floors of an old building, which has no elevator. I had to ring the door... more

If you're traveling by yourself and don't want to splurge on lodging during your trip to Madrid, I recommend this well located and clean hostal. The two fellows that man the small front office are both cordial and speak good English. I stayed at Oporto for a week--two nights in the small single room w/ twin size bed and the... more

In October 2006, my wife and I stayed at Hostal Oporto for three nights due to Frommer’s review. Great location. The hostal is near to the city's major tourist attractions. There is no lift, but it’s not problem because the hostal is on the first floor (two flights). Our double room (number 11) with toilet and shower, for 55 EUR... more

Paid EUR 55 for 1 night 1 person, booked thru Venere. Great location, room a decent size, clean, secure and as an added bonus, free wi-fi. Apart from a good night's sleep that's all I care about. Five stars so far. And that's the problem. The walls of my room were so paper-thin that when my neighbours in the next... more

Great location, very close to the centre of Madrid (Sol, etc). Friendly and helpful staff and although they don't speak very much English, we coped very well with our Spanish/English phrase book. Room was very clean but the bathroom was very small. Can get noisy in the early morning due to the binmen coming at 3am. Ceiling fan in the... more

It was one of the best hostel I ve ever stayed. The clean room was extremely efficient with air condition and bathroom. Also ıt was very close the city center. And the staff were cheerful and kind. more

The hostal is located near the Bank of Espana and near the Congress, and there is always police around, so it feels very safe. The location is convenient; 5 mins to the Thyssen-Bonamisza. The rooms are not equipped with air-con, but it's okay because September is not a hot month in Madrid. The ceiling fan may be a bit dirty... more

It's amazing how quiet this place is, given how close to the Puerta del Sol it is. The location is amazing: up the street from the Thyssen-Bornemissa, and within spitting distance of the Prado (and an easy walk to the Plaza Mayor and Plaza Santa Ana, etc.) The previous post characterized it quite well, but I'd like to emphasize the... more

My wife and I recently stayed at Hostal Oporto for three nights. As mentioned in the Frommer's review, our room was clean and spacious for two people. The room had tall ceilings and a small closet for clothes and shoes. We had a double room (two twin beds pushed together) with a fan. Because of the hostal's location away from... more
