Plus a very comfortable room. This property holds ground right in the center of Plaza del Sol or Vodafone Sol now. Metro station is just a few steps from the hotel and walking distance to pretty much all of Madrid main attractions. We walked to and from Prado Museum, Royal Palace and every thing in between. Breakfast is very good... More

My husband had his wallet stolen on the metro coming in from the airport. Javier, helped us make long distance calls to cancel cards, have replacements FedExed to the hotel, and even offered a cash advance if we needed it. He turned what could have been a catastrophe into just a bump in the road. The room, overlooking the square,... More

This is a great hotel. A really good location with friendly staff. Despite being right on a pedestrian street, it was so quiet at night, once the window was closed. Comfortable bed. A good sized room.

Oh what a location! It simply cannot get any better! Right in the heart of Madrid. Sitting in the balcony room with the famous Puerta del Sol view is already enough. Room was super clean! Big bathroom and lots of toiletries daily. Very helpful receptionists (they speak quite good English) and chambermaid. Metro/train station just next to the hotel.

I can only echo the high marks given this hotel for its service, cleanliness and comfort. If driving to the Hotel using GPS you will likely be routed to within a block or two from the hotel when the street will become pedestrian traffic only for the Puerta del Sol plaza. The police will stop cabs trying to enter. Your... More

Comfortable, clean, spacious room and bathroom. Very nice staff. Asked for room away from Puerta del Sol and was accomodated with a nice quiet room. Ate breakfast downstairs in cafe attached to hotel. Location excellent, walking distance to lots of restaurants, metro, El Corte Ingles, etc. Note: a TI is downstairs in the metro! Very nice helpful people there but... More

Very nice, clean hotel in a great location at the middle of the city. We were right on the Puerta del Sol square, and, with the shutters and thick window glass, it was very quiet at night even though action in the Puerta del Sol continued through the night. We went to Hotel Europa on Rick Steves' suggestion, and were... More

Accommodations were great. Wonderful location with easy access to tourist sites, shopping and restaurants. The reservation staff met our request to have a room facing the front of hotel. Very helpful staff. The restaurant adjacent to the property was good.

We had a great stay at the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room clean and the location perfect for us. We paid for room with a panoramic view and definitely felt it was worth the extra cost to be able to look over all of the ancient city.

The Hotel Europa is in an excellent location for all of the major sites in Madrid. We were able to walk to everything. It is right near rhe central square and there is so much happening there. It is clean and we had a great quiet room.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
